Worked a cool 16 hours this weekend at least on the car. I would say I was pretty sucessful for working mostly alone.

Pulled the engine
Pulled grannys shitty cradle out
Bolted in Pezs great mounts
Put the engine back in
Bolted the intake fuel rails coilpacks, and headers back on.
cleaned up the wiring a bit
connected all the wires hoses and other connections
Bled the clutch and brakes
Connected back up the exhaust
Put the driveshaft back in
Filled everything with fluids
Flushed the coolant
Fixed a short

Started her up and man does it sound awsome with the new custom 228/232 XER LSA 112 cam. Don ran the same cam in his 3650lb camaro and ran 11.1 at 117 with the same setup except it also had untouched TSP stg 2.5 5.3L heads. At 850lbs lighter race weight my car should tickle 10s if I do my part right.

Vid (doesnt do it any justice, it plain sounds nasty in comparison to before and wierdly revs quicker even though I went with a heavier flywheel)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqD2NyR_GCA

The car sounds drastically different when revving. Its just plain nasty now. I am surprised because this cam works its pretty tame. Lift is under .600

Also I bought a speed bleeder for my slave and bled my clutch in literally less than 5 minutes. Deff worth the investment. The Monster stage 3 from first impression I like it A LOT more than the old Textralia Oz700. Just the feel of the clutch seems better. The Oz700 was stiff but unlike a factory clutch it just stayed stiff and didnt really break away like more factory clutches do. This Monster "breaks away" if that makes any sense and has feel when it disengages. It also requires less pedal pressure than the Oz700. It still is yet to be seen where the engagement point is with the monster, If its decent I'll be happier than a pig in shit.

Yeah I gotta set up a time with Don in the next couple weeks

Cant wait to get back in the car and get done with the 500 mile break in period for the clutch.

Can you go wot during clutch break in? Not beat on the car or hit the shifts hard. Just soft slow shifts but once its in gear can I go WOT with it?

Also did suspension and brakes this winter so the car should be pretty intense, I hope it still hooks up with such stiff suspension.

Untuned they have a mean idle.Tuning smooths it out a bit.Going WOT on a new clutch is not good. Also not good going WOT on an untuned car either.

deff not gonna go wot untuned. I figured I'de get it tuned before the clutch was broken in.

Last summer I only put probably 1000 miles total on the car so it could take quite a while to get 500 miles on her.

yea sciff man def take it easy and putt around until u get a tune and the clutch broken in. no reason to risk it.

I was just planning on getting her tuned right away (which will require WOT anyway) Just so I know I'm safe, but don said I could putt around on this cam without tuning just no WOT I am guessing he wants me to putt around on it for 500 miles than bring it in for tuning so the clutch is fully broken in before doing the wot dyno tuning. Gonna have to drive this thing everywhere.

I just got the monster stage 3 too. It's not as heavy as the Spec 3+.. better for old grannies :) I'm having fun with this thing. Actually coming from my worn clutch, I'm just happy with anything that grabs

Just gotta break it in another 200 miles and we'll see how crappy I launch at the Seekonk Speedway sunday. I'll probably wish I still had my worn clutch :)

Do they enforce the rules for spectator drags?

The rx7 could be really good for spectator drags but it doesn't have carpet so its considered stripped by most. Still has the seats/dash/headliner/door inserts ect.

The rules technically say full interior

I was thinking that. The car would be pretty nasty if I could get off the line. I meen on paper it seems like it would be a very competitive machine. Fully adjustable coil overs, enough power to prob run 10s, and the car is a good 400-600lbs lighter than most of the other cars I'de run against.

I even have the Nitto 555Rs which bryan say are the best tires to use for these events. Only problem is getting off the line any time I've tried to get off the line with 555Rs I get crazy wheel hop. I would need to practice a lot to adjust my launching style around the hop to reduce it, basically slip the clutch.

It wouldn't hurt to try to get in despite not having a carpet. I don't think they would notice. Worst case scenario you park but you have the pit pass which I would get even if I wasn't racing. They are not extremely strict on rules. They've even let people race with illegal tires for one race.. but that pisses us veteran drivers off when we see that and you won't make a lot of friends, lol

Nitto 555r's are very good all around. Anything 100 treadwear or higher is legal. I just picked up some NT01's for my car so we'll see how those work.

How much power do you have? Power to weight ratio is important. You don't want to be too light and have tons of power cuz you'll just spin tires around the oval. 400-450 is pretty good for my 3500 lb car

Nt01s are R compounds so I thought they wouldent allow them even though their treadware is about 100 I believe. Nt01s will be a huge advantage. Those tires straight up smoke any normal street tire in the corners and my buddy who runs them on his 800whp corvette can get them to mostly hook on the street which is saying a lot.

I also know guys in the v8 rx7 world cutting low 1.5 60's with them at the strip. They are a VERY good tire. If they allow it let me know I'm sure you'll be impressed with them you can even drive them home although they wont last very long with lots of street miles.

I should have close to 400whp in a 2800lb car.

BTW goin back to the cam. Don I like the idle the way it is now, any way we can leave it like that? JK

It really doesnt have much lope even untuned. I could live with it the way it is but people will deff know its a cammed car.

Its not the idle that surprised me I knew that would get meaner. Its when I'm revving it that it just sounds a lot meaner. I just didnt think the cam would change the note of the engine that much. I am thinking of heading down the cape strapping the wheels and hood on and trying to make it back here to Norwood. I just wouldent have much time to check everything over and I usually like doing that, I know off the top of my head the wiring for the starter, crank position sensor ect all the wiring on the passenger side right now is closer to the header than I'de like, stuff like that is what I need to look through before i run the engine for any considerable amount of time. I usually go back through and check every nut/bolt I could have potentially touched.

Yes NT01's are legal. Anything under 140 treadwear is considered r-comp if we're talking SCCA. Nitto 555rs are considered r-comps. As long as you have something 100 treadwear and above.. it's legal. Lots of people started running NT01 recently

Another thing I just noticed and Don will appreciate this.

There is zero motor noise with this cam. I get no racket or sewing machine noise usually associated with cams.

Those slightly longer pushrods I guess worked well
