Sooo I had a broken tranny mount, replaced and 6 days later.... It's broken again.... What causes them to keep breaking besides worn motor mounts..? Need some ideas asap please and thank you

quit stomping on the gas after every stop...
I'd say motor mounts or Torque arm bushings.

I drive highway all day, no stop and go and no mashing of the gas, I just drive it unless it was just a bad part

Damn, I hammer on mine and still got 9,500 miles out of the last one. I hope my new one holds up better than yours did.

^ what he said..blue magis can get you a nice poly one for like $30 he said he has yet to hear of one breaking

You won't hear about poly mounts breaking, because the tailshaft housing on the transmission will break instead.

Don't do a poly unless you do poly mounts. You will always break a rubber mount if you beat on it with soft motormounts your asking for it. Get a relocation cross member and the problem is solved with a stock rubber mount.

Like he said, the engine and transmission mounts need to be the same, if you put a poly trans mount in with stock rubber engine mounts the trans will not be able to flex with the engine and you will break the tailshaft housing.
I don't think I'm brave enough to try that torque arm relocation crossmember yet...

How much are poly engine mounts ?
Formula413
08-21-2010, 11:20 PM
Around $30 each. They're actually much cheaper than stock rubber mounts, getting them in is the hard part.

Gotta drop the A arms to do the engine mounts right?
Formula413
08-22-2010, 06:29 PM
I don't think the A arms have to come off but I know it's tight in there and you have to wiggle the engine around with a jack to get at them.

Where is he at now ?
he is in mendon on rt 16 in the "industrial park" before dean bank....which is right before imperial he is straight back once you pull in the parkinglot he has a sign out front too

irockidz28
08-23-2010, 10:11 PM
i would do everything together im sure you could do them with out tooo much of a hassle if you get it up high on jackstands then have a jack for the engine...or a lift if your that privlaged
Batman
08-23-2010, 10:52 PM
or a lift if your that privlaged
I love being privelaged.....
It's because you haven't bought my Berger panel yet. The car is mad at you for depriving it of sexiness so it keeps breaking itself.

ILuvPizzaTimes10
09-01-2010, 11:35 PM
MOTOR MOUNTS! get a relocation cross member Or poly motor mounts and a new torque arm bushing/mount. or you'll keep breaking them
JoeyxGx2
09-02-2010, 01:40 AM
How much is. New torque arm bushings and the relocation bracket ?
ILuvPizzaTimes10
09-02-2010, 02:19 AM
Relocation is like $250 I think. Well worth it. Usually they come with the poly mount. Theb you'll be all set. Slight more road noise but its A LOT better theba tunnel mounted torque arm.
JoeyxGx2
09-02-2010, 02:22 AM
I don't have the dough for that..
ILuvPizzaTimes10
09-02-2010, 02:28 AM
Then get a poly tranny mount and baby it.
JoeyxGx2
09-08-2010, 03:00 AM
I'm just gunna get poly engine and tranny mounts should solve the problem
SLP IROC-Z
09-09-2010, 03:08 AM
good idea, then hammer away. my 305 5 speed ripped stock mounts like it was its job. no doubt an lt1 or ls1 will tear stock tranny mounts too.
Greenbird94ta
09-09-2010, 03:22 AM
same thing happened with my car man, i'm babying it for the moment with a poly mount on the tranny.
SLP IROC-Z
09-09-2010, 03:53 AM
why are you babying it?

09-09-2010, 12:19 PM
Rubber engine mounts + poly trans mount = snap!!!
ls6monte
09-09-2010, 04:22 PM
My car has rubber engine mounts and a poly trans mount and I have had no problems at all. Is my car that much different from an F-Body? Or is it because of the torque arm on the trans that causes all the problems?
84ta406
09-09-2010, 07:52 PM
Poly trans mount and rubber engine mounts here as well. TQ arm isnt on the trans anymore though.
Formula413
09-09-2010, 08:28 PM
I don't think it's related to the torque arm. The problem is that when the engine flexes under load and the trans can't flex with it there is a lot of stress on the tailshaft housing, which is what breaks.
