View Full Version : DAMMIT! BS Red light ticket!! :c
I just got a ticket for running a red light. It was a light near my gf's house that chages VERY fast. It was green and just as I got to it it turned yellow then prob as I went thru turned red. So next thing I see is a cruiser behind me and the lady gets out and says what did you just not feel like stopping for the red light or what? Didn't give me a chance to talk just wrote down my info and said youll be getting a ticket in the mail. So thats like a $100 ticket PLUS the fuckin insurance surcharge. FUCKK. I have a clean driving record, no speeding tickets, no nuthin... I have points on my insurance from when I crashed my camaro in 2008 so now its gonna be even more... My friend told me to fight it but I doubt it would be effective... Nobody would believe me over the cop. FML more $$$$ down the drain that working at a carwash fails to support...

You have nothing to lose. If you don't get it tossed at the magistrate hearing, appeal it and go before a judge, and the cop HAS to show up or you win automatically.
Yeah he said something like fight it the cop most likely wont show up. But I have a feeling this woman will... Seems like the type that just wants to see a 20yr old kid GO DOWNNN in fire. Nice fuckin DESTRUCTION or my clean record >.< But I guess I'll fight it, but what about if you lose do they charge you for the court thing like wasting their time or no?

Check off on the back of the ticket "request a hearing" and send it in. The first hearing will be before a magistrate, and a cop (doesn't have to be the cop) from that town will show up and read whatever the officer wrote down. You can make your case (try saying that it just turned yellow or whatever you can think of) and be sure to point out your clean driving record. You probably won't win but they might offer to reduce it. But the key thing like you said is the points on your insurance. So if you don't beat it there you can appeal it and go before a judge, and the cop that pulled you over has to show up for that or you win by default. I think you do get charged like $20 or something if you appeal and lose, but think about how much this could cost you on your insurance.
True. So didn't write anything down she just read off my info to someone on the radio thing and someone else must have wrote it up. She said she got a call so "youll get it in the mail."

That might help because she probably didn't get into too much detail about what you did. You could say it was snowing and you thought your brakes would lock up, or the sun was in your eye, or whatever. What did you actually say to the cop if anything? Because anything you say is admissable in court.
I didn't say anything, I said it was red??? and she said yeah, and thats about all i said aside from okay heres my license and reg. The sun actually was in my eyes. I have a feeling she was following me and looking for something to pull me over for because she asked if this was my car.. ????
fight it and take a video of the lights speed.

If she pulled u over why is it in the mail?
Read my other posts she "got a call" so she just read my info off to someone via walkie talkie and said youll get a ticket in the mail.

Generally when they tell you you'll get it in the mail you don't. They normally just say that to make you nervous.
But, if it does happen to show up it's always worth fighting it. You never know. First one is a magistrate hearing and you pay $25 the day of court for your appeal.
If you lose you need to pay $50 that same day to schedule a hearing before a judge if you so decide. It used to be that the officer HAD to be at the judge hearing but I heard a while ago they changed that and any officer can cover :(. I'm not sure if thats the case but either way it gives you a point to argue with the judge. How can someone testify to your guilt that wasn't even there to witness anything?
As for the charges to appeal I know that's current, just fought 2 tickets in the past month ;).

First off don't try to lie about what you were doing, don't say it was wet if it was dry etc etc. But alot of times they will either toss it or make it something like a parking ticket if you are polite about it. If the light was red it was red, it doesn't matter how fast it changes. End of story. You go in there pleading that you will def get the ticket. All i would say is that you didn't know it changed so quickly and ask for something with no points on your liscense. But you go in there telling the cop they are wrong or lie to them you are finished.
Thats the case technically I believe the light turned red while i was going through, because it turned so fast I wasnt expecting it. But as i went in it was yellow. Thats my argument. Sor a silly mistake that wasnt like a hazardous maneuver that could have killed someone I don't believe I should be raped up the ass for it.
Adam shut tha *** up. What does my hair have to do with anything? When I am formal I look clean. Worry about yourself. I'm sure if you were going you'd want to shave and get a haircut so that they don't think you're 12 with facial hair growing to cover it up lmao.
btw I don't gel my hair its cut like that.
Honestly I don't even care about paying the ticket fine I just don't want the points on my insurance now added onto the ones from my crash in 2008. >.<

yay <3 no homo. hope it works out. I found out police in the area are conduction "extra enforcement" or some shit in the area. I guess they called the house a couple days ago and my step dad answered to an recording saying methuen police will be using extra enforcement against speeding and violations." And i got pulled over a second time tonight because my dam headlight is out. So thats 3 times in the past week!!! fuck!

I always fight tickets. Especially if u have a clean record.I once beat a 80 in a 40 speeding ticket. It's all in who u get for a magistrate and his or her mood when it's your turn. :)

Magistrate can't make it a no points on your license ticket. It all depends on the citation code. He could lower it to $5 but if it's a red light ticket you're still getting surcharged.
Course they won't tell you those things until it's too late. The registry and the court are two separate entities and they will both independently screw you every chance they get ;)

and again. i hate cops. i would also stress the fact that a cop has told me prior that if the light starts to turn and ur at the "point of no return" its safer to just go through it. i've stopped b4 in the middle of an intersection and backed up because i saw a cop watching me and he pulled me over and told me that
