HIS truck can go to hell!
At times I can't sleep well. it's been an issue for a few days. I have a script but hate taking them (was out of them too)... I got 4 hrs of sleep sat night. 6am came around I figured if I was up anyway I'd take a ride, refill em n get some rest.
On highway I saw temp moving but no antifreeze smell. The gauges have a mind of their own. It never overheated before, so I drove it. Near my exit it was buried and Ya antifreeze smell. Eh I'm near cvs drive it! too cold to care n was annoyed. Get it there it's smoking like hell. Waited for it to cool, dumped in fluid..but not enough. Didn't bring $ for antifreeze so I added water.
The jackwagon at counter says, don't open it hot. Ya think?. He says "don't let it overheat or u will blow a head gasket. I say annoyed, if u saw how bad it overheated Id care more bout a warped head.
I add the fluids and drove it home. IT DID NOT EVEN HEAT UP AT ALL the whole way home. SERIOUSLY? 1:15 for a half hour ride. In the cold! The truck hates me. Fuck HIS truck lol grr :)

Well, when we got the truck it had very little heat but the temp also never got obey like 110. Otherwise drove fine besides not having much oil pressure at idle.
So, I figured it needed a thermostat. A couple days ago I finally got around to putting in a thermostat. Worked great, had heat, truck ran/drove even better. Had a family day on Sunday, went to Boston museum of science, then drove around for an hour trying to get to hard rock for dinner lol. All told cruised around for about 5 hours total and it seemed fine, smelled antifreeze a couple times but I just assumed it was leftover stuff burning off.
Anyhow, she took the truck last night and by then apparently the radiator was empty. Today I checked it out and the overflow is full and everything around it is soaked like the radiator emptied itself out the overflow.
Filled it all back up with antifreeze/water and no leaks anywhere. It also won't heat up again at all. I'm guessing my new $5 thermostat gave up when it overheated. Drove it around for an hour tonight with no issues beyond having no heat again. I'll double check tomorrow and see how much antifreeze it swallowed. I could definitely smell it again here and there. But, it's not leaking anywhere....
Oh, and it also has a constant faint white smoke coming from the exhaust and the radiator hose is nice and stiff right after you fire the truck up...

Before you get ahead of yourself, I had a leaking radiator once and it was very hard to diagnose. I even brought it to a shop and they missed it too. It kept getting hot, almost to the red. The radiator would always be empty and I couldn't figure out why. No puddles under car. Bottle always had coolant. Pressure test at the shop found nothing. The way I finally found it was to fill the radiator with the engine cold, then drive it until it warmed up, then get out and look under the hood. Sure enough, coolant was leaking out the seam between the tank and the core.

yeah but did your car Pressurize the coolant system to 25Psi+ in 30 seconds?

I didn't do shit! :haha: I don't have pressure testing equipment!
This was the Escort BTW, not the Formula

sounds like a problem with the headgasket or cyl head(s)

Trust me alex, gone over it closely and it's not leaking anywhere. But it is definitely drinking it.
If it wasn't for the fact that it has no oil pressure at idle after it warms up I might look a little deeper but given all the issues the motor has I think I'm just going to swap it out. Friend of mine has a truck with a new crate motor in it he's been after me to part out for him since he moved half way across the country and it's been sitting at his parents. I'm thinking that motor will go nicely in my truck :)
