Should I go to Puerto Rico?

So, I applied for this thing that Northeastern University offers for undergraduates, "Research Experiences for Undergraduates." I ended up getting a call with them telling me they want to offer me a position, IN PUERTO RICO.

I wanted to do the project in Boston, they pay for your housing and I'd get a feel for the school before I transfer there in the fall. But damn Puerto Rico??? I would be getting paid to go there, paid housing provided by University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, and $4500 stipend and I would be there this summer from June 6th to August 12th at the University of Puerto Rico doing research on explosives detection (homeland security stuff). Huge decision for me, should I reject an awesome opportunity and miss summer, or should I take it miss summer and, idk.. benefit from it in the long run I guess. I have never traveled out of the country, and they want me to decide by tomorrow >.<

I heard PR is not bad. But Dominican Republic is where the badasses are... and I do not have to worry about my girlfriend finding another man, especially if the money I would make would be partly spent on her anyways! lol.

I vote for "do it". I spent a week there on vacation and had a great time. There are some bad neighborhoods but (common sense stuff) stay away from them, don't go crazy with the nightlife, stay away from all dealers, hookers, etc and you should be A-OK. Sounds like a great opportunity. Step 1 - get some language CD's or DVD's.

there is always a party going on!
the puerto ricans are not like the assholes that are here on the mainland.
make sure to visit the BLACK ANGUS and RIVIERA while in San Juan!!!!!
but they are probably gone lol (whore house/ bars)
the only thing you gotta watch out for is the screaming MEMEES!

Honestly I say do it, keep the camaro at your parents house and go. It's a great opportunity and will look great on your resume for future jobs also how often do you get to goto puerto rico? it would be a great life experience and in the long run i think is worth it. Also if this is homeland security stuff chances are they are going to keep you pretty safe you are an asset to them. In the end its obviously your decision but it would be great for your future IMO Good luck man

Mechanical engineering. I havent taken linear algebra. Just Calculus I-III and Differential equations. I often wonder why i put myself thru this bullshit (Doesnt help that i live with CJ majors who just smoke and play video games all day) but i'm hoping it pays off in the end
