Dawg....find out what the best welding helmet is. My welding really sucks and I think it's because I can't really see what I'm doing with my cheap helmet.

OK....I'll practice more and not try to focus so much on what I'm looking at.

Sweet, I can see it now:
Honey can you help me out... I'm not sure why there is a beer can welded to my eye glasses but could you take that pair of nips and cut a whole through it so I can see...:megaman:
Oh and while your at it can you remove the dog from his choke collar that I welded onto the car bumper:shiftyeyes:
Although - I don't weld, in talking with others who do, there really is more of a feel to it vs. seeing it:Superman: Good Luck in your practice sessions:mariosmile2:
LOl probly my problem too ( i got an elcheapo weld helmet)
Miller sells some real nice ones for a couple hundred bucks.

yeah i say a helmet will help you if your starting out. all i look for is the puddle control the rest is feel. if its spitting dragging etc. thats all feel.

And yes, autodarkening helmets are a great plus!
But, like pizza said, feel/sound is the key ;)

harbor freight sells an auto darkening helmet for $35-$50 depending on the sale of the week... definitely worth it.

l thing that sucks about those is they dont hold a charge(if its the solar powetred one) and then you goto use it and for the first 5 or 6b strikes it wont darken and you get flashed. so dont buy a cheap solar powered helmet if you arent going to use it on a daily/weekly AT MOST basis.
welding school went fine.
my welds are almost perfect there but at home they suck.
so its gotta be the shielding combo gas or the mig wire!
at least thats what the instructor said.

what kind of welder are you using? is it plugged directly into the wall or are you using an extension cord? not enough juice can make for crappy welds!
miller 135
plugged directly into the wall.
