I was swapping the tow wire shackle out on the scallop dredge the other day on the boat I work on. I grabbed the 1st wrench I saw which was a pair of vice grips to get the rake back fishing asap.. shoulda took another minute to locate the adj wrench tho:(

I was wrenching on it at face level and the vice grips slipped off as I was trying to tighten it the last little bit with both hands and smack! nailed myself with the round adjusting nob on the bottom of the vice grips. It just felt like some one punched me in the face and my automatic reaction was to spit the shit in my mouth out which was the remains of my front teeth.
We got in in-time to catch a dentist luckily, he put a temporary cap on my front left tooth which only looks half of it broke off but really it was totally broken a tad below my gum line. the front right tooth broke into 4 different pieces(u can see the cracks if u look closely) he knocked off the left piece but the right piece goes up into my gum line in the back so I need to go back in friday for a more complicated procedure, if I don't knock it out before then. and the dentist even stitched up both sides of the hole going through my lip:Drool:

yeah its not to nice feeling at all, but its more of a PITA than anything! I can't take a bite out of food, I've got to cut everything into small pieces so I don't knock out the broken piece that my gum is holding in(my right tooth or left on the screen). that and if I close my mouth all the way to bite down with my back teeth I'll knock that piece off too cause the piece is hanging at a backwards angle so my lower teeth hits it.
heres how it looks now til friday when they'll fix everything properly, gotta bring in a picture so they know how my teeth used to look. keeping my fingers crossed that I won't need any root canals cause both nerves were hanging out for a few hours, they said its a 50/50 chance. other than that I think my lip is getting infected, seems like 90% of the time I get a cut out fishing it gets infected.

goofy lookin temporary cap huh? its pretty much the whole tooth, theres like a 10th of an inch of tooth left along the top, the 1 thats still broken has a little more left, in the front anyways, the back goes up into the gum but good news is they can put a crown on it and I don't need a fake tooth implanted.

yeah broken teeth suck. got 4 broken or chipped, and 3 cracked in my accident. but that's because my face bounced off the steering wheel (not a wrench)....

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!!!

Guess we know the answer to that one. Hahaha

Just messing with ya. That sucks. If it is one thing I hate is having dental work done. Makes me cringe. Good luck man.

^ahahah! yeah ditto on dental work, if a broken bone wouldn't side line me work wise I'd take some broken fingers or some thing over a trip to the dentists. drills are the worst with those vibrations and that smell ughh I should find one of those dentists that knock you out to do work lol

the vise grip...was it china or usa made? the reason i ask is cause the china ones are junk. the jaws are VERY soft.

I'll have to check, I know some of the gripping teeth are worn a bit. but fishing boats aren't kind to tools.

The boat owner doesn't want to cover the dental bill so I may have to lawyer up. my uncle put me in contact with a good maritime injury lawyer that will rep me for no $ up front. theres no work mans comp on fishing vessels but there is a thing called the jones act where not only is the boat supposed to pay the bills for any injuries but their also supposed to pay me "maintenance" meaning what I usually make for every day I miss resulting from injuries. I just want him to cover the dental bill tho so hopefully he'll balk if I threaten to get a lawyer cause if I need to take that route he'll have to pay me allot more $$$ than just the amount of the bill!

the dentist was out sick last friday so my teef are finally gettin fixed today. as soon as I get out of there I'm gonna get a big sub and take giant bites out of it. I can't wait!!!!

How to tell the different in USA vs china vise grips:

USA on the left. china on the right

yep, it was a set of china garbage..
the bill so far is $850 and one of the cracks went way up into the root and there wasn't enough tooth left to put a crown on so I'll be needing an implant... I'm thinking gold sincethe owner agreed to foot the bill:D j/k
