Well starting to get it together now, pics will be forthcoming but here is the breakdown of the core pieces, I've decided to go with pretty much all off the shelf GM parts to keep cost down and yes I know I can make more power blah blah blah but this is just a replacement engine with a little more power, not looking for huge numbers on my DD! Anyway here is the breakdown
2002 LS1 shortblock
317 Truck heads (looking for 87 octane!)
LQ9 camshaft
Trickflow Chromoly pushrods
GMPP high volume oil pump
LS2 HD timing chain
electric fan swap kit
GMPP LS1 Plug wires
NGK's
have an 03 5.3 coming in Monday with 29K on, going to steal all the electronics off of it to replace all my sensors and such
Shortblock is torn down and waiting to go to the machine shop now, if it gets a clean bill of health I'll start getting the other pieces.
**Edit** supposed to be "Tahoe" engine build, the Taheo engine is still good ;)

I knew it wouldn't take long to hear what I should of done, lol. No real point to paying for a 6.0 when i already had access to an aluminum 5.7 for next to nothing, I am not going to be maxing out the potential of either engine so the lighter more fuel efficient engine is a better fit for what I want

Already had the LS1 though, or you would be correct, I can get a 6.0 for about $800, and an LS1 will be at least $1500.00

Ummm, I'll probably get close to $1000.00 for the parts that can be re-used, not really keen on giving it away since I am unemployed Jan 1st. Don't know how far you are from Webster Mass, but the LKQ yard there has lots of em from $200-$500.

Planes are going bye bye for the next 12-18 months to get the glass cockpit upgrade, no planes means no need for crews so we are all pretty much gone by April 1st
Damn shoulda went with an LT1....

CROSSFIRE!!!!! DO IT!!!!!
Batman
12-12-2009, 03:52 PM
hey don't knock the crossfire, with an intake manifold change, cam and ported heads I've built 2 that made over 400HP. Their 2 achilles heal in stock trim are the shitty intake and a PCM that can't give it the tuning it needs, seen a few stockers gain 30HP from the updated PCM

God damn really?? i thought there was nuthing that could make those things run good. good to know. and what intake did you put on it?

The cross ram was the best one then, ther eis another company making them, can't remember their name. Turbo City has tons of replacement parts and ECU upgrades also
Yeah man, crossfires arent junk. before i got my camaro i looed at a crossfire vette for sale with my dad and that thing had some balls man and really dont notice a difference with my slow lt1. that vette was nice but needed paint, good thing i never bought it haha

Well after some more research I decided the LS6 cam won't work the way I want because of the weight of the Tahoe, so a buddy is coughing up an LQ9 cam for free, so can't beat the price and now I won't have to update the valvetrain on the heads. Also got an LS6 PCV system for $20 on ebay because some tool listed it as an LS1 valley pan (oops!) so that is cool too.

It moves the PCV to the valley pan instead of the valve covers and really helps on the early LSX oil consumption problem, plus it eliminates a bunch of hoses off the top of the motor, PCV comes out the front of the valley pan, into the valve then staright up to the intake, whole hose is about 4 inches long. If you look at the pic below you can see it on the passenger side of the engine by the T/B
