its not really a swap. id never pay that kind of money for a used motor. you can buy all the ls6 topend parts and rebuild your short block for way less. hell theres a pair of 243 heads on here with 1k miles for 600, thats a start.

Depending on your build date you may already have an ls6 bottom end from gm. Only difference is cam and heads. You even have an ls6 intake stock. Id invest in some heads and cam on top of your ls1. Would bne way less money and make a ton more power.

Everyone gave their honest opinion, that is what you wanted right?

Bottom line is if your going to put in a stock ls style motor wether it's a ls6 or ls7 for the price you are better off with your stock motor and modding it alittle. Also the ones you posted are grossly overpriced and you could get a built motor for almost the same.

Yeah i f'd up on the post hahaha as i can see..... i changed my mind, I'm saving up my money and going to call up slowhawk soon ( as in end of month soon ) to have headers and cam put onto my car, any suggestions ? I use the car as an every day car in the spring/summer but I love the mean loud sound and the HP so what should i ask for

Have an idea of power and how driveable you want it. Don will help you with cam specs. If you are an auto you will be better off doing a stall before a cam. A cam without a stall on an auto will run like shit.

IMO: is go see don and discuss what your options are and what your future plans are with the car so you can make a sound decision. This in turn will help you later on down the road save money.

Everybody wants the most power and a big lopey cam till they find out they drive like shit. You have to find the happy medium.

If it's an A4 car is has to have a good stall converter first.

Theres a brand new 383 for sale you could get for 5k he put over 7500 into the motor i have all the receipts for it and its brand new id like to buy it for some other project but have 3 projects going at once and cant handle it. If your interested i can give you all the info on it. It would be a beast and could take prob anything you could throw at it. Or like don said give him 5 grand and he will make a monster motor for you

Damn, $7500 into a 383?

Ya i said the same thing to the guy the list is crazy but it was like 7679 to be exact! WASTE OF MONEY i think. But i could get it off him prob 3500 or less he needs the money and it hasnt even been ran yet............yes everything included i think dart heads i gotta look at the list its on my desk at work. But also fast intake

My84Z
02-03-2012, 10:56 PM
With heads i can see that cause i could spend alot on heads alone

Slowhawk

Sounds right now with Dart heads. Problem is 383's pretty much suck. Not the right stroke/bore ratio. The 6.0 can make more power.

isnt that 9sec black camaro rocking a 383?

That would be correct. Things a freak!!! its an easy 8 second car with that 156mph

ILuvPizzaTimes10

Just because you see a 383 make good power and run good doesn't mean it won't wear prematurly due to geometry.

Only Time will tell on that one.............

There's a reason I went 396 with a 6 inch connecting rod. I know its lt1 but the rs angle on even a classic sbc 383 is terrible. Reason they make more torque at lower rpm but not much more up top hp over a 350 ci.

Yes, with a turbo. We now we are on limited time on it.
It's just not an ideal stroke/bore to make power with. Alot of piston rock. This is the reason you don't see too many 383's out there.

Camaro9969
02-08-2012, 01:29 AM
ya the 4" bore is much better for boost and will last a lot longer than the 3.6 or whatever the 383 has. Not to mention A LOT cheaper! i bought two lq4's for nothing compared to a 383
