How about this one? Bad car fax, owner says when he bought the car he was told it had 80K on it but previous owner had replaced the gauge pod and it was installed at 0 zero miles (had 1600 miles on the OD when he bought the car). The OD now has 7119miles. The seller said he had it sold but then when the buyer did a car fax it said it was over 300K miles (I find that hard to believe). He wants $5,000 plus I would have to get it shipped from OH. It is a real SS with a 6 speed and he has the stock white wheels that will go with the sale as well. He said there is nothing wrong with the car. Said I could fly out and drive it back. Thoughts??
Its very cool and looks clean but I don't think I could own a TMU 30th SS

1 of the biggest problems is the distance, what if the car isn't what you want you just traveled all that way. I would do is look for other cars around that area to look at just in case that deal go's bad.

I think you'd almost have to look at it as a car with 300K on it, especially when it comes to the price.

I don't know what your budget is but here is one. I've seen it in person. Lot of money now but in the future, could be a worthy investment.

I offered the guy 4k sight unseen, as is. I figured I couldn't go wrong. I'll see what he says. Shipping is 365.00 from OH to the Boston terminal.
Beautiful car but 20k is not what Im looking to spend on a car I plan to beat at autocrosses. Thanx for the link though.

So I have the seller down to $4450 and he will throw in....
Used Spohn rear suspension (adjustable TQ arm, hard pan, LCA relo brackets and arms)
New unistalled QA1 coilovers front and rear
New uninstalled Loudmouth 1 exhaust
Second set of wheels, chrome ZR1 wheels 17x9 and 17x11 rear.
315 mt drag radials (4 passes).
What are they parts worth if I sold them off?

Yes Frank, the TMU car in OH.
Id be interested in some of the pieces of you were to get them with the car. That's not a bad deal easy 1500 in parts right there

I'll let you know.
My thoughts with this car would be to buy a new short block from Mabbco and set up a dual shot NX express direct port. A stock bore 4 bolt LT1 is $1799 with forged pistons. Cam/heads/bolt-ons should get the car into the 10's all on the cheap. It already has the suspension and drag pack. T-56 was rebuilt 7500 miles ago.

I think I am going to hold out for a better example. I would love to get my hands on one of the 108 LT4 Camaro SS 30th that were produced. I would imagine those will be the collector cars for the 4th gen cars. The 35th is cool too but there were thousands produced. The LT4 SS goes for north of $25K with the right miles. I would also go for a 30th SS 6 speed vert too sub 18K. at $4450 the other SS is a deal especially with the extra parts but at the end of the day it will be something that will need work on (I have enough of those cars) if I can find the right example them I will go with it.

Mods good or bad?
Formula413
10-21-2014, 03:42 AM
On an SS I would say probably not good, unless they are minor and reversible. I didn't see a mod list for that car so I don't know what it has. I'm not a fan of tan interiors personally. And I do like Pewter F buckets. The first person I met from the online community after I bought my car was Jay from CT with the Pewter WS6. It was already 90% drag car at the time. Still one of my favorites.

Here s the mod list.
K&N FIPK intake, ASR switchskip shift eliminator, pacesetter long tube headers, SLP Hiflo cats, magnaflow catback exhaust, SLP subframe connector, shotchkis sport coil springs, KYB AGX shocks, BMR torque arm, Hotchkis rear trailing arms, Hotchkis adjustable panhard bar, pioneer head unit with USB connections, pioneer front and kicker rear speakers, Baer brake pads, 'new' Nitto NT555 tires. Dyno tuned by SloHawk Performance in Bridgewater Ma...340 rearwheel horsepower and 343 lbs/torque.

That's nothing too extreme, the engine is still untouched. If those are mods you wouldn't mind having then I wouldn't be put off by them. I would want to drive it and see how it rides unless you plan on changing the suspension. But lowering springs are almost a must with Camaros.

mods like that means it was beat on. and if not properly tuned for them could have very well hurt the motor, either too rich or too lean. Modded cars are bought by people who are gunna mod them further and beat the piss out of them some more.

With 777whp. Why take out the back seat. If you want 2 seats buy a Vette. Oil leak too. Seems like a great price though.

Poll.
Both bone stock, 6 speed, SS cars.
97 30th SS LT4... 1 of only 108 made
02 35th SS LS1... Convertible 1098 were built 701 were M6
Both similar $$ numbers
Formula413
10-23-2014, 12:10 AM
I vote for the '97 because I like the look of LT1 SS cars, and I'm not that big a fan of the 4th gen verts. Also I can add a poll to the thread if you want.

the LT4 will be worth more in the future then a seemingly run of the mill 2002 SS. yeah anniversary and all but they made a TON of them. maybe not vert. but then your in an even smaller market. So LT4 it is. and then hope the opti doesnt blow up on the ride home......

Z28. When I started as a Security Guard at age 22 (fresh out of the Army) I was homeless living in a hotel with my mother for nearly 6 months. To cut a very long story short, I'll just say I grew up very poor. It took others to believe in me before I could believe in myself. Just a word of advise, family is not where you need to look. Family typically have the best of intensions but status quo becomes the norm and as sad as it sounds love can be restrictrive and selfish when risk is present. I had two people that nudged my direction (a girl) and a finacially established older stranger that allowed me to believe in myself. If you want more, look outside your inner circle. Don't fret, opportunities will make themselves available to you, just be ready to jump and take the risk.
BTW, the "girl" has been my wife of 17 years, the "stranger" is still my mentor 88 years young and my Mom is just about ready to move into her new place (completely mortgage free). I took the risk all those years ago figuring I could not fall much further. I now have a life that I still can't believe is mine.
As for the car....No I have not made up my mind, the LT4 is at the top of the list but at $25k it opens the doors to several nice 68-73 Camaros and Firebirds. I like gen2 better but gen1 seem to hold value better. That said, I was suprised to see how much some of the Gen2 were going for.
I appreciate the words of wisdom Kalstar :)

Since you're willing to spend some decent coin I would prioritize what you like over what will hold value best, IE what other people like.
