Gang we have a 89 RS 2.8 5 speed car for a winter beater. It sits a lot of the summer cause its a winter car. I'm sick of putting crappy napa pipes and mufflers on it every couple of years. Is there anything better? Not looking for loud or shinny just functional.

edelbrock, flowmaster, hooker, there are lots, go to summit and search
Edit: here are 2 direct fit, but any cat back for a 3rd gen will if if you use a reducer on the Cat

Dynomax does have the option for SS But i still believe the carcass of the muffler is mild steel just the pipes are SS. Hooker is mild steel and will rot on a winter car. Sounds damn good though. id try and get a quite SS mufler and pipes i dont know of one off the top of my head. Magnaflow Might be quite on a 2.8 with a Cat see if you can youtube a video of a magnaflow on a V6 f-body.

Yeah I would guess that a Magnaflow would not sound obnoxious, especially with a cat. Might be a little louder than stock. Plus it's stainless and reasonably priced.

the 2.8's sound like ass anyways. I don't want it to be any louder.....

i think the 2.8 is one of the better sounding V6's to be honest. with a properly toned exhaust at low rpm they sound deep and throaty. id say get a Magnaflow. it wont be loud untill high RPM and i bet you wont zing it past 3 grand anyways.

Get the Magnaflow Scott. Reasonably priced, stainless steel and a nice look/sound. You and Carrie will be happy.

It looks like Magnaflow doesn't make a V6 3rd gen exhaust so you would have to do what Nick said, get the V8 catback and run a reducer. That Dynomax stainless catback on Summit looks like a good option too.

you could change the CAT too, they make 2.5" in to 3" out

I may have to change the cat also. It is rotted right at the inlet. I welded it a few times but the salt we have on the roads just eats up cars. I have a set of headers but don't want to be bothered by putting them in. The car needs some tlc cause some jerkoff hit the drivers door when Carrie was parked somewhere. It also killed the D/s mirror and the IAC is acting up so I have to find a replacement. Her LS1 needs a clutch and a seat replacement....It never ends.
