Of course :)
Gonna sit on the stand for a while but I have everything from pan to intake including a LS1 intake.

Got a few questions, how strong is the stock bottom end? I know the Rod bolts are weak but the motor is a 99-00 motor. The heads I have are iron so I know theyre pretty much junk. Would a set of 241 heads be a good setup with a nice cam?
Also not sure if its gonna be EFI or carb yet but How bad is the LS1 intake? I want to shoot for 450-475rwhp with this thing.

L92 heads FTW, you have a 4.0 bore so you can use them. Stock crank is a beast (casting # should be 12552216) and has proven itself in 1000 HP engines. I have NEVER heard of a crank failure. I'd get some H-beam rods and forged pistons and you should be good.
Having given it some thought I'd go with L92 heads and the L92/LS7 Carb manifold $2700.00 for the entire top end conversion and electronics or piece it out if you want to re-use some of your stuff. Only thing you couldn't use for sure are the intake rockers, L92 has offset

Well having given it some thought I want to use the L92's, seems like the best bang for the buck. I also think I'm going to use the GMPP front drive setup and run a carb.
I'm still looking at intakes, not sure if I want the GMPP L76/L92 intake or the edelbrock ones.
Dont think snything will swap over from the 406, just the carb and my MSD stuff.

I've been looking into this as well : http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/msd-6301_frm28939.pdf
Still curious if it uses stock coils and just uses the crank sensor to tell the MSD when to fire or if it works in a different way. If it does it just like that I'll do it that way.
But if I need the front drive kitand a distributor I dont get why I would need the converter at all?

The best way would be to just use the coils get the msd or eddie ignition box and run the carb. that way you can have a fully programmable Ignition.

The MSD/Eddy ignition box is hit or miss. I was told its not good for a performance build, its meant for a cheap easy carb swap. Thats what a MSD tech told me today.
Fuck it I'm just gonna use the front drive kit, ford dist. and my Digi 6+

why did he say it was hit or miss what about it makes it not a good candidate

Sometimes it works for peoples combo's sometimes it doesnt. Like I posted before he said theyre not meant to be on a race motor, mainly stockers or cam only motors that dont see much abuse.

So its a heap of shit that cant keeop up to the demand of a real motor. fuck that thing then. run a pcm with EFI or straight carb with that dizzy drive.

:owned: lol
Been doing a lot of looking around for shortblock combos/ heads and cam combos though.
This is what MSD told me: The 6010-6012 LS series controllers were designed to drop and OEM or OEM replacement motor into something like a street rod. There are no increases in output like a 6AL or 7AL and you're going to be limited in the amount of cylinder pressure you can run safetly without blowing the spark out. Since this unit has been released this is the only time we've run into this problem.

but thats the limitations of the COILS not the box..... and your talking some SERIOUSSSSS pressures to blow out a coil on plug ignition system.

Yeah you are going to get much better spark coil on plug Vs a Dizzy

The front drive kit is much more popular for my situation unless I was sticking to EFI and using coils. From what I've seen a lot of people arent happy with the boxes.

I think I have a shortblock narrowed down a bit.
Stock crank
Scat Forged H beam rods
Diamond Pistons 11-11.5:1 CR
Plasma Moly rings
Clevite Bearings
ARP main studs possibly
I want to make this into a 370ci motor but we'll see. For now its just planning everything out.

sounds familiar, pretty much the guts of my engine

I figured you have a good setup and I'm only panning slightly more power so it should work for me. I'm sure I'll play around as time goes on.
Anyone heard of Mast motorsports?

what are you looking at from mast? They are good but VERY expensive

I was looking at their LS3 medium bore heads.... oops lol
Batman
03-12-2010, 01:58 AM
you are going to have a hell of a time maxing out stock LS3 or L92 heads unless you get some more cubes or FI of some kind
84ta406
03-12-2010, 02:16 AM
Its more they offer the same port design and valve sizes but in a smaller port size.. 253-256cc vs the what 280cc on the L92's? Like I said just poking around lol
Aside from the L92's I'm looking towards the PRC LS6 Stage 2.5 heads.
c4boom
03-12-2010, 03:53 AM
ya good luck with that you will have to sell off the 406 just for the heads
84ta406
03-12-2010, 03:59 AM
I know, just pokin around, probably gonna end up with the L92's anyways or the PRC heads.

Well finally picked up the motor today. Got EVERYTHING from pan to intake, including a LS1 intake, all the sensors, bolts and even all the accessory brackets... And it all fit in the back if the GF's Integra... lol

So, what are you doing with the intake... :)
And which brackets? Truck or f-car?
Nm, saw the other thread ;)

Which intake did you want?

Looks like I'll be needing a Oil pump and a timing cover. I thought I had them but I cant find em. Probably gonna run a stock cover and a ported LS6 oil pump or maybe just a stocker.

The ls1 intake.
I already have a truck one ;)

Shoot me a offer, I have no use for it... Carb FTW!
Trade ya the nitrous kit for the intake.. deal! lol
------------------------
Just messing around with things, figuring out what goes where etc. Looks like I need intake bolts since the ones from the LQ4 cant be used with the LS1 intake though.
