Well - that was the shorted amount of time I've ever run a SBC before klilling it ! I got about 6 months and around 1000 miles on the TBI motor in my 91 RS before it died. I was beating on the car pretty hard doing burnouts and even some highway fun a couple weeks back and noticed it was running a bit wierd when I parked it. The next day I fired it up only to hear the dreaded lower end knock.

After taking the car for a ride it was obvious the motor was toast and by the time the ride was over the engine was making a LOT of weird noises and was running on 3/4 power ( or so it felt ). Thankfully the nice weather last week enabled me to get the motor pulled so I could start working to replace it. I got another 305 TBI, swapped the pan, heads, and all accessories onto the "new" block and got it re-installed yesterday. ( I had already replaced the valve seals and added 1.6 rockers to the original heads and swapping them allowed me to install some new head gaskets while I was in there.) Most of the swap is completed but I've still got some work to do before attempting to start the car. ( exhast. cooling, P Steering connections ect.. )

Lets see if I can get better than 1000 miles on it this time !

I could only WISH that it was a new engine !!!!!!! Original milage was unknown - guessing it had about 130-150 on it based on the internals.

The only new motor I ever bought was the 355ci that's in my Berlinetta from Chad Golen. OK - OK,.... I had to bring that one back to him twice due to bent valves so maybe I should just put a block of wood unde the gas pedal in my cars as a deterant !!

Atleast you dont have thousands into a motor and it breaks.

Eh, between that and the tree falling on the roof a couple months later it was finally the kick in the ass i needed to give the car the full revamping it so desparately needs. Hopefully get it out again next year sometime. As long as I get all my other shit squared away this season and can concentrate solely on the 68 for next year :)

Much appreciated. But, when I start the 68 and what's left of that zo6 in the driveway will be coming to Athol to get fused together so you'd have almost an hour ride ;)

The car was out for it's first ride today ! Still still some minor "tweaking" to be done, but all in all I'm real happy with it.

Only significant changes compared to the last engine were the removal of the Smog ( pump is still on ), Removal of the AC system coolant bypass, and the addition of the HO air cleaner. Those things had to get removed in order for the Air Cleaner to fit on top of the TBI unit.

I had planned to put a TB spacer on it but I didn't because I didn't want to deal with modifying the fuel lines toto reach the back of the TB. The only other thing needed to install the Spacer is a couple small spacers under the throttle bracket to keep the throttle and TV cables at teh correct angle. I'll re-visit sometime in thenear future !

Ah the L69 air cleaner, I had that on my 84, even found the right hand scoop. If my ex-brother in law ever sells it he has strict instructions ot give me back the air cleaner, lol I can probably get $200.00 for just the scoop!

I had one of those air cleaner's for my monte years ago. I think I sold it for $50 just to get rid of it! lol

I had a few of them over the years but always sold them off. Now I can't find any decent snorkles or duct-work anywhere !
