I'd love to see David's Z make a pass - like a real one - hard launch, Goodyear bias plys holding on for dear life, and the sweet, sweet sound of that 302 shifting at redline......

Well, I can dream, right?

It would probably be between 13 to 14 seconds. Stock first-gen Z/28's are not good quarter-mile cars. They don't have decent torque off the line.

They were made for road racing, primarily to compete in the Trans-Am Series back in the 60's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Am_Series

The engine limit was 305 ci (5 liters). Peak HP is at 5300 rpm and they were designed to run at high rpm's.

Yep. The headlights are on and are working great.

Dave weren't the 302 engines 10,000 rpm screammers? I remember seeing a he I head 302 concept engine gm was trying to make for the trans am series cars. That was a wicked high rpm engine if remember.
