Over the years, there have been several attempts at strips in Mass. Some even got built such as 'New England Dragway South' in Norwood, MA back in the late 60's. They spent a bundle building it only to have to shut it down after a few seasons because the noise was bothering the Yuppies who built houses next to it...!! A-Holes...!!! Then, there was talk about building one in Palmer, MA but they ran into the same problems with the Town Fathers. The Mohegans (the folks who take your money at the Casino) talked about bringing back the strip at the old Connecticut International Raceway in Colchester, CT. For awhile, the Casino sponsored a Funny Car so why not build their own strip with a buffet restaurant and a few slot machines...!! And then there was talk a few years back about someone putting in a track at the East Hartford Pratt & Whitney plant. I guess that idea was put to rest, too. What it all boils down to isn't just money. It has to be built where no one else can come in and build houses next to it and then complain about the noise....DUH..!! For the time being, NED has been the only place nearby that's been able to keep going without any hassles from the locals. "Back in the day..", we had no fancy strips. But we sure had a helluva lot of fun on the streets...!! Ahhhhhhh......Route 1 at the lights in Norwood where Art Johnson's burger joint used to be is hallowed ground. I think part of my transmission is still in the woods along the side of the road....!!! ;-) |
ive heard all kinds of stories about the one in Norwood from my dad. Wish i was around for that

Yeah there's been lots of talk about opening up a nearby strip but it never goes anywhere cause like bowtie said, all of the non car people move in and bitch.
There was also talk of turning the Worcester airport into a drag strip too but I think that's gone away also. I guess the closest close thing we get if they do it are the 100ft drags at the roundy round tracks. |
problem is tracks are not cheap..that 40k wouldnt even pay for the insurrance needed for the track..even if you convert a old air port over you still need a solid couple million just to get started..
lv is only a hr drive for me so thats not really bad at all..bradenton motorsports park was about the same for me..but sunshine drag strip was only 10 mins from me..lol biggest problem is it takes up alot of land and then people start pushing in on it and then next thing you know you cant run cars after 10 at night and all car must have mufflers and such because start building around it..sunshine was in a industal area and still after 12 at night they would get shit for cars running.. |
Was not saying 40k would build a track more like 2 mil and why not every one donate 10 dollars to a drag strip build it could happen what if the land say 20 acres + say in south hadley middle of nowhere no one in sight for miles was already there just need funds to create it on the land already owned say donations wouldnt work? just a thought what do you all think?

Let me dust off my calculator.....OK, 2-million bucks divided by 10-bucks. Well, that's just a mere 200,000 donations. If you can get the other 199,999 to chip in, I'll certainly throw my ten-er into the pot. In fact, I'm feeling generous at this time of year, so I may throw in a 20....!!!!
