Lt1 SLP intake conversion
im looking to ditch the factory air intake set up for the SLP set up. First off does any one have the parts they are willing to sell? second what is involved in doing so with a factory hood?

Amazingly enough they still have them @ SLP - SLP Cold Air Intake
Here's the options from Summit Racing: Cold Air Intake Kits I sort of prefer the single large cone version vs. SLPs smaller dual cones They all should fit under the stock hood as they relocate the filter into the open area behind the headlights. They do make a nice seat of the pants gain in HP though - SLP / K&N claimed ~8-10 HP gains and thought I remembered seeing those proven out on the Dyno somewhere along the lines as well:vroam: |
Considering he mentioned the stock hood I think he is talking about either the LS1 SLP lid conversion or the LT1 SS Ram Air System.
For the LS1 lid you have to hack up your radiator support and hood to get it to fit For the LT1 SS intake you have to spend quite a few bucks to find one since they're hard to find, and they are considered a choke as compared to the other tube style aftermarket intakes So based on that, I'd say go with the aftermarket SLP tube style intake Grovelet suggested, or any other intake like that. :klab: |
Ahh - sorry the "Ram Air" Conversion - Not proven to be a huge gain overall - and to get the "Ram Air" effect you'll need a hood with some sort of venting into it (SS Style or Aftermarket).....
Otherwise I'm pretty sure there's no value at all as it's design is one to increase airflow at speed, but without a way for air flow into the engine bay it's no better than the stock enclosed air box. |
the ram air only is nice to be sucking air from outside of the engine bay. you cant go fast enough to be adding flow to the intake.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking the k&n only because the tube is plastic and shouldn't hold as much heat,vs the slp which is metal and will heat soak and hold hot air?

If you're just looking for a cold air intake Moroso and K&N are both good choices and show good horsepower gains.
