gears are in!

and all i can say is holy crap! what a difference its made...i cant wait to actually beat on it haha For being told 373s might be too much sooo wrong they are perfect! Im glad i went with them and not 3.42s. Now just need to get it tuned and ill be good to go...speedo being way off sucks to drive with lol
Feels awesome to finally have the car spin out of the hole and chirp 2nd at like 1/2 throttle lol...... f-u 2.73s!!!

BrokenFeather78 07-28-2010 09:30 PM

About time! Like I said before 3.42 is good enough but I like my 3.73s.

84ta406 07-28-2010 10:02 PM

Nice! I cant wait to swap my 3.5's for some 4.11's

SLP IROC-Z 07-28-2010 10:07 PM

so much nicer to drive! cant wait to see what it does with a converter

What's your RPM at 70?

And give it a few weeks, and let us know what happens to your mileage.

Thanks!

irockidz28 07-29-2010 04:23 AM

congrats!

Navy01z 07-29-2010 04:30 AM

around 2250 @ 70....and as for the mileage its the same if not better...i drove around in drive with the 2.73s in so its the same in overdrive with these gears in...i get around 17-18mpg city driving.

ls6monte 07-29-2010 04:16 PM

Nice Maddie!

chevy94c 07-29-2010 08:59 PM

I saw a big differance going from 3.23 to 3.73. It's alot of fun going to ned now.

SLP IROC-Z 07-30-2010 05:39 AM

hit the 500 mile marker tonight and beat it like a read headed step child, these gears really woke this car up, it was fast even with 2.73s but it hammers now. 15mph punch tires still burning when the car hits 2nd. she needs to get a pair of welds and 27" QTPs and see what it does at the track. 80mph in od @ 2650rpm cruising with the 275 40 17s. holeshot is much stronger, gets into the power quicker and stays there. next step YANK

Bayer-Z28 07-30-2010 03:21 PM

Congrats! Good bang for the buck! And gears will actually help city gas mileage.

C Murda 07-31-2010 03:16 PM

i dont get why anyone would say 373s are too much for an auto ls1.... thats like 4.11s on a t56... or maybe 4.56s... its alot but def not too much...

ILuvPizzaTimes10 07-31-2010 10:04 PM

all depends on your setup really.

Bayer-Z28 08-01-2010 01:47 AM

I would think that 3.73's wouldn't be enough.. On a 6spd rather.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-01-2010 07:04 AM

if you can run 27 tall tires and your car runs 10.5 at 127ish. 4.10's wont get you to there. again it all depends on what your trying to achieve.

Slowhawk 08-01-2010 02:58 PM

I personally do not like my 3.73's with the auto.Wish I did a 3.50. Cruising at 2.8k rpm doing 80mph is not fun for me.

DemonWithin99 08-01-2010 03:55 PM

i like the idea of 3.50... hmmm...

Exactly why I want 3.42's. I do too much highway driving for that sort of cruising RPM.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-01-2010 08:32 PM

i cruise in 6th with 4.10's at about 2500 ish doesnt really bother me.

84ta406 08-01-2010 09:07 PM

3rd gear with 4.11's ugh lol

Now you know why I've said over and over again I will never build another car without overdrive. Drove that same setup to Florida in my 68. Nearly shit myself when we got further south and the speed limits went up to 75 lol.

84ta406 08-02-2010 07:51 PM

Doesnt bother me yet, I'm sure it'll outgrow but so far so good lol

frankzlt1 08-02-2010 10:19 PM

congrats on the gears, i have 342s with an auto car runs good 2200 rpms at 60

Ahyup, I was that way once too. Got old real quick once I started venturing far from home.

Slowhawk 08-02-2010 11:28 PM

#1 mod -good stall converter.

*LS1* Queen 08-03-2010 05:15 AM

converter is on the way next lol

SLP IROC-Z 08-03-2010 06:35 AM

converter is on the agenda, however were pretty damn satisfied with what $300 bucks did for this thing. car would get up and go before but now were fighting to keep it going in a straight line until 55 from a 30mph punch! maybe better tires are a good idea before a converter? lol

Formula413 08-03-2010 08:48 AM

Better tires are always a good idea. :)

*LS1* Queen 08-03-2010 08:50 PM

ya still got to swap the nittos on but car is def gonna need some serious tire for the track now haha...i never expected these gears to do what they have its nice to finally feel all of the hp and tq which i never did with the 273s on the street lol kinda scary now that they are broken in and i can beat on it lol.. def need to get used to the ass end kickin out and spinning like a mofo lol huge change

JoeyxGx2 08-05-2010 02:14 PM

Congrats ! .... I need to get gears and get rid of my 2.73s...

*LS1* Queen 08-05-2010 05:38 PM

ya u do! 2.73s belong in the garbage lol

BirdofPrey 08-06-2010 05:52 AM

I never take off my Hoosiers so I guess the 28" tire makes a huge difference on the highway. At 70 I'm at about 1800 rpms with 373's. And with 411's I was at about 2100. And as for 373's being too tall of a gear, I don't know who told you that. I've run 4.11's with no problems and I'm actually having my US 4.30's installed today. Won't be the best setup for the highway but most of my street driving is at about 40 mph in the city so I'll actually save gas cause my converter will be locking up at just the right speed.
