Picked up another one for the fleet

Yup, finally worked out a deal with my friend/landlord for a truck he's had sitting outside on the lot.
91 gmc Sierra. 3/4 ton. Beyond that and the obvious visual stuff I don't really know much about it. He picked it up from the salvage center a couple months back. It has some damage on the pass side that he started fixing but got sidetracked on. I half assed smoothed it out and spray bombed it for now. I'll make it pretty in the spring when we don't need to drive it everyday. For now it's on to daily driver duty to replace the poor falling apart everyday jeep lol.
Drove it around today after bolting the bed back down and tying up a few loose ends. Seems decent so far. So nice having a workhorse. Now, on to find a car trailer in the spring :D
Here's a few pics:

Thank you. And me neither but I can't ever remember seeing anything other than red, blue, or tan and none of them really excite me lol.
That and this is going to be my workhorse beater. I have zero desire to do anything to it beyond required maintenance. It's already got enough stuff done to set it apart from the crowd to keep me happy :)

I'd rather a short bed. This thing is long enough. Been a while since I've regularly driven anything this long. I wasn't calling it parking this evening, I was referring to it as "finding a place to dock" lol

941LE 12-25-2010 05:16 AM

looks good matt

c4boom 12-25-2010 06:00 AM

Yeah, as of right now I dont care enough to change anything lol. Yeah the dash is red too.
Eventually though that's exactly what I was thinking, swap in the newer style dash/interior. We'll see what presents itself for cheap. As of right now it's not even on my priority list lol.

That was exactly my thinking. I'll most likely be trailer shopping in the spring. ;)

And yeah, it's a small block, just not sure what size yet. I haven't checked. Either way I don't think it's original. Way too clean and all painted up under the hood to have over 200k original on it

Looks good Matt!

Havent had the chance to drive it to work yet. Got it Friday and had the rest of the weekend off for the holiday. But, from what I've done around here it doesn't seem to be too far off from the jeep. May even be slightly better with how the jeep had been dumping fuel from it being all fubar'ed

did you try pulling the ECM open and making sure its not full of moisture. Number one cause of Jeep running issues If the TPS isnt doing it. wiggle the middle connector. if it starts idle surging or stalls or runs noticeably different it needs an ECU.

CamaroRacing12 12-28-2010 04:43 AM

Sweet work truck. I will be trailer shopping in the spring as well

Nope, haven't tried that yet. No one else has mentioned that ;)
Next time I'm picking away at it I'll look though thank you.

Nice truck, did you take it out in the snow?

Absolutely. Did great once the actuator finally decided to kick in and engage the front end lol. Only took a minute or so but was long enough to make me nervous. First trip was down rt2 from Leominster to home (normally about a half hour) in the middle of the storm Sunday night.
It's not quite as goods the jeep but I think that's all in the tires. The trucks are far less aggressive than the mt/r's on the jeep ;) Still did very well though.

thats the first sign its failing Matt. goto the dealer and get the updated/95 up finned type. you will need a pigtail along with it. RC Truck in Brockton was going to sell me the pigtail for 15 bux. dealer wanted 90.....

we had one..sold it in 2006 but from like 99 on it tool for f*ucking ever to engage. BUT it never failed on us..did take like almost 2 mins by the time we finally sold it lol

bottledbird68 12-29-2010 05:03 PM

Either that or just one of the posi-lock cables and do away with the actuator entirely. We'll see when the time comes. For now, its still working. Just takes a minute ;)

Chicken's Chick 12-29-2010 05:27 PM

Or we trade both the truck and the heep in and get a new truck that doesn't break :)

You cant get rid of two vehicles and make the fleet smaller!

I accepted the fact we will have a fleet. Normal people sell/trade previous vehicles to get new vehicle. He can't let go of any of the previous. Over time older vehicles usually break together and rather than fixing what we already own... We get another "project". The "fleet" u all know is the 6 he shows. We have two more projects if I can't talk him into scrapping the rotted 87 in his moms backyard. I also been hearing talk of him wanting a new Camaro. He has hoarding issues ;)

I really can't argue that lol. I recently came to the realization that I'm like a women is with shoes when it comes to cars. When I get bored or stressed out I go car shopping and instantly all is right with the world :D

I did however offer to sell them all, buy a new Camaro, and be done with it. She likes at least half the fleet too much to let me do that though ;)

Exactly why we moved to a used car lot. All the room in the world for parking and we can have our own private junk yard down back lol.
