Flywheel Resurface?
Question for you guys that have had your flywheels turned. my buddy has a stock flywheel (96 Z) that he has had turned about 2 times and now needs to do it again. I told him he may need spacers now. Have any of you guys used spacers after the first resurface?
Reason for the constant resurfacing is he sucks at driving a clutch. |
tell him to get a automatic
|
you mean a spacer in between the flywheel and the crank?

Who has been installing the clutches? if he is hes not indexing the fork into the square end of the throw out bearing properly. ior who ever is doing it. same thing. and second if you resurface it twice get a new one. it will for SURE warp and cause a NASTY chatter in the clutch pedal and possibly hurt the tranny.

^yea at some point you gotta suck it up and buy a new one

ohh and sorry but i didnt wanna clutter up Adams thread So i moved your question here.

I am the one that has always installed his tranny (on my back). I have never had any issues with getting the fork seated into the pivot and TO bearing. He is doing something in his driving that is causing stuff to break. I have pulled my tranny out a dozen times and never once have I had an issue with the fork or anything else in there. THis guy just seems to always break stuff. He might have MAYBE 300hp. He is now looking for a new clutch and flywheel setup and I just cant see him throwing a lot of money into it. He wants a Mcleod. Oh and his trans is in 500 pieces too. He is also looking for another LT1 T56. If anyone has a decent trans or a virgin flywheel then let me know. Oh and the chattering when he would take off slowly would rattle yourr teeth out of your mouth. |
clutches was he using? just so i know NOT to buy it!

The last two were Spec stage 1 setups. I have a Spec stage 3 in my car and have not had one single issue with it other then slight chatter when it was new. The one I have is about 5 years old and I think Spec redesigned there stage 3 after hearing of a lot of users having issues. |
i have a spec 3 in my car from 06 and its JUST about at the rivets. ill get one more season out of it. have been happy with it. after all its blown up 3 rear ends and a tranny(it Held the power is what i mean). So that cant be his issue. must be a terrible driver then?? i dunno. But yeah get a new flywheel!! if thats what were still talking about anyway?

He is looking for a new flywheel now. Im trying to suggest he NOT spend a ton of money on those billet setups. He dont use the car that much and when he does, its just a weekend cruiser.

advance has a nice one. its a rebox of a Valeo. perfection of some stupid ass name. id even say and go one further. my bolt on LT1 had NO clutch issues with a stock flywheel and Valeo LT4 clutch. both are All they sell now in the boxes.
