Need a new car! Help?

So my 97 grand am finally is no longer worth fixing. Everything is rotted, literally almost everything. I need a car to get to my internship while I'm at school and will be driving to and from franklin & westfield on weekends. Looking for decently afforable, not horrible in snow, pretty good gas mileage and I preferably want it to last for a while. Also I would like to keep it from being horribly awful. So I have no idea what to get. Maybe like 2 years old? Not a piece of junk?

Ben will clearly be a huge helper in this decision but just want a larger sample of opinions :)
This is going to be the first not complete beater car I've ever bought sooo I have no idea what I'm doing! :D

gtp maybe? like midnights old car.

smokinss 05-09-2011 01:08 PM

Saturn FTW!!! Hahaha. Ive had my 99 5 speed sl2 for awhile now and let me tell ya. Parts are cheep and it gets 30mpg all day long.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-09-2011 01:36 PM

are you going to finance? if so that broadens the selection.

yes sir

ZFreie 05-09-2011 03:06 PM

I agree with the Saturn idea, you would save a ton of money on payments and the cars are cheap to fix and get amazing gas mileage. I'm also not a fan of car payments either.

that car is great if you want the perfect mix of performance and comfortability..without buying a caddie that is...gas mileage was like 19mpg city..so not ideal if MPGs are a concern.

ebs 05-09-2011 06:33 PM

hmm. i think a gtp may be too, idk intense? like i dont need the performance aspect. i need like one step above mom car, or even a mom like car if u know what i mean? lol.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-10-2011 12:11 AM

CHEVY CRUZE!!! hands down. fuck go buy a USED honda for what a Brand New Cruze is!!!! Thats my suggestion. drive oen you wont be sorry. and for 16k BRAND NEW its a no brainer.

KLAB 05-10-2011 12:13 AM

I was saying around 2000's saturn sl1/sl2 just because you can find one for very cheap and very cheap to insure. I wouldn't lease/loan a car myself at my age. Too unstable.

midnight 05-10-2011 12:14 AM

v6 Fbody!!!!

Used Subaru from East Granby Motors

They are decently priced, and provide a bumper to bumper warranty for 6 Months and 1 Year on the engine!:nanawrench:

I was just thinking about it. I loved my Chrysler 300m while i had it. 4 door, v6 HO, power, leather, heated seats ect. Bigger and nicer then an sl1 or other small car. Got low to mid 20s with mixed driving. If i were to get another DD that wasn't a roller skate Id be tempted to get one again. Only major thing that ever went wrong was a dead coil pack. Car could scoot to, and handled very good for how big and heavy it was. Just tossing it out there cause its a step above a cheap car and a few steps below a new car with a large payment.

Its prob faster then bens iroc to lol Sorry ben.

ebs 05-10-2011 01:13 AM

thanks for all the suggestions everyone :)

FireChicken 05-10-2011 01:56 AM

panther car..... crown vic, grand marquis... they are extremly comfortable and reliable. you can get one a few years old with 35k miles or so for about 8-9g last i looked. plus they get pretty damn good gas mileage... if you want more fun buy a b body. sure they are older but ive had 3 and have had good luck. all had under 30k miles and bought for less than 6g and this was within the past 4 years. i miss my roadmasters so much hahaha so im kinda biased. if i sell my chicken im going back to a fleety or a roadmaster

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-10-2011 12:48 PM

new chevy cruze gets almost 40 in regular trim and if you gt the turbo eco it gets 47-50+. and its not gunna be a head gasket time bomb. saturns may be cool for people who can fix them. but if you jkust want soemthing to get in and go and not have to worry about it blowing up for the next 5 years buy new.
