Bottlebird's Junk At It AGAIN!
Ok, for the record, repairing melted wires in the harness DID NOT fix the camaro's issue :p
Holy crap, I'm pretty sure at this point some properly placed C4 is the best approach. Either that or put in on a post at the end of the shop's driveway, great advertising!
then the shorted wiring melted a land on the ecm or shorted/burnt up one of the quad driver modules(output transistors for the 5 volt power supply.

And yes alex, the advertising value is probably the only reason the car is still around. All it does now is sit there and look pretty lol |
test to make sure your getting 5 volts were you are supposed too. the black wire should be the return/output from the O2. if i remember right. so it May not have burnt a quad driver but maybe the input side for That O2.

But, that being said, it is better, still sucks hairy ball bag, but at least it's not sweaty ball bag on top of the hair lol. Only pops occasionally on the throttle, almost nothing on decel. Still stumbles and breaks up pretty bad though. |
Sounds ecu related if you had melted harness wires. what year is your car? 1995 right? i think kevin(klab) has the cable if you wanna get a junkyard ecm even a caprice 4.3 ecm is the same and i can flash the tune over for you.
i didnt know if you had posted that you had burnt wires in another thread. i searched threw your "my car runns like poo" thread and didnt see it mentioned So i made a new thread for yah. to clean up the car show thread. and if you dont like it Eff You!!!!
LOL at the new title
Right? Couldn't help but laugh at the title myself lol.
And pizza, I have a couple lt1 pcm's floating around. One from a 94 and one from a 95. Both b body pcm's. At this point I'll try anything. I was gonna throw a set of plugs at it and see what happens. It's not really backfiring anymore but it's still stumbling all over itself at anythig over like 1/8 throttle, until you floor it. Then it kinda clears up somewhat but still breaks up and is way down on power. |
Hmmmm...at WOT it would switch to open loop, right?
not exactly open loop. it just adds fueling as a percentage on top of what is set by the pcm(BLM/LT-ST)
Fuel pressure has already been checked right?
It should have been. That's also on my to do list. Been more concerned with getting paying jobs out the door rather than mess with my spare car.
It's doing it's new job quite well. It sits there and looks pretty all day lol. |
Ok, so, she checked fuel pressure finally. Would dip then climb when you whacked the throttle and didn't change at all when you pulled vacuum from it.
So, we changed the fpr last night. It's a little better now but still after it warms up it's stumbling and way down on power still. At least after the fpr and melted wire fix it's kinda drivable again. No where near what I should be though. Stumbles and breaks up. No more backfires now. Hmmmm |
my buddys car just started doing a similar thing the other day....doesnt do it 100% of the time tho.
is the fuel pressure still dropping under full load? fuel pump might be heating up and thew volume is dropping. and once that happens stumble and lack of power. just be carefull if its lean you can melt pistons Real easy!!!
Wouldn't that most likely throw a lean code though? And surely wouldn't backfire?
wont throw a lean code under PE(Power Enrichment). the pcm turns the O2's off and it wouldnt know. PE is after ~75% tps. is that about wen it starts breaking up?
No it starts breaking up at anything over about 1/8th throttle.
Under a load or free revving. Pretty much everywhere in the rpm range as well. Now it's mainly just a stumble. No more backfiring. But, only when it's warm. If I start it up and hit the road the car is a freaking animal for about the first mile or so. Then it just turns into a giant poop machine and remains that way until it gets to be dead cold again. |
a dead short might have fucked the eeprom. and you might be in limp home mode. wen i get my laptop back and after i get klabs car figured out i can pull the tune from your car and take a look at it?
If you get the chance and we haven't figured it out yet then yeah mike that would be awesome. Thank you.
Well, did some more looking around, egr valve was bent and not closing all the way.
So, pulled it off and deleted it lol. Once again, it's a little better but still has a stumble and loads up/shoots flames when you rev it. At least it's not backfiring anymore. I can almost drive it regularly but it's still not sellable. Need to sort this out, CAR NEEDS TO GO!!! Found a fifth gen we want but need the cash from this to make the numbers work... |
Might be rehashing stuff again here but did you check for exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors?
Yes we did and no there isn't
At this point without looking at it. I have no idea.
I'm ready to just try a fresh set of plugs for the hell of it and see what happens.
After that I'm lost too. Ready to let it go much cheaper just to get the fifth gen we want if that doesn't solve it. I dunno. Hate to take a 2 grand hit though over something stupid but I don't want to lose the other car either. Hmm... |
Just saw in your FS thread that the car has Taylor wires, I've heard of them arcing many times. Do you have another set of wires kicking around you could try? Probably another dead end but just throwing it out there.
Honestly alex that's about what it feels like now is a bad plug.
Was thinking the next step was toss a set of plugs at it. If it sticks around long enough I may as well do wires too. Tough to follow them since they still route in the factor location under the valve covers. Any idea what part number people use for otvc wires on lt1's? Would be nice to get all the money for it and not take a loss. |
yeah taylors suck get a set of cut to fit accels or msds and get the opti boot kit from Thunder Racing and get the hand crimp tool. if you dont get one i have one.

Start the car up at night and watch the engine bay, one of my camaros put on a nice little light show at night from the arcing wires.
