overdrive trans swap options for sbc??
I'm thinking about what our options are for my step dads 68 vette. Here are some details:
'70 LT-1 block GM '70 LT-1 cam LT-1 domed pistons camel hump heads Muncie M21 4 speed factory 3.73 rear He has another factory rear with 4.11's he is thinking of selling. I suggested we swap in the 4.11's, and swap in a t5 or t56. That would be badass, but we would have to swap in a used trans. can a turd gen T5 tranny bolt up to an sbc, or even an LT1 T56? I assume the T56 would be harder with the lack of computer, but also wondering is the T5's were fully manual no electronics? and no were not swapping an LTx or LSx. I'd do what I usually do and get deep in the research but I'm back in school and seeing if anyone of yall have some info. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...8/IMAG1354.jpg :klab: |
if the car is an original car leave it with the four speed other whys I would go t56 the t5 is made of glass
Its far from original.
LT1 T56.. done dont bother with a T5
They work on a SBC?
They use them on the LT1's! Same as a sbc.
what do you think is in a turd gen?? lol
the T-5 that they would not put behind the L98 because they knew it would not handle the extra load of the massive 245 HP
how much for the muncie!
Problem with just getting an lt1 tranny is the crank flange. His lt1 is a 2 piece rear main seal setup. Wich means the factory 4th gen lt1 flywheel will not bolt on. If you want a junkyard overdrive setup bolt on and go get a t5 from either a pre 87 camaro or s10 4.3. They are both the same. With the 2 piece rear main and will bolt on. They dooo offer swap parts to adapt a t56 from an ls1 to a sbc but your talking almost 800 for just the parts no tranny.
I'm sure the t5 would hold up to this motor! And NO JOE the muncie isn't gonna be for sale!
T5's didn't hold up behind a STOCK 305! Are you out of your fucking mind????????????
The WC T5's are better but not much. |
T5's didnt hold up with my 3.8 lol. I killed 2 of them.
Yeah I didn't say it was gunna be a strong setup but it would work. Now if you can find a vette hurst 4+5!! That'll work great! Too bad there about 5 grand! Haha
Find a used tremic tko for a chevy usually about a g and will hold up to quite a bit
IIRC they make a flywheel for a 2pcs RMS for a T56

like john said, tko 500 or tko 600. most likely they sell a kit for that specific application.
get a richmond 5 or 6 speed and be done with it!

i was going to say trade you a T56 for that muncie!
that t5 wont hold shit man !!! i had one back in 2001 in a 2.8 86 berlinetta replaced the 2.8 with a 305 and the t5 could not hang with a 305 never mind an lt1 dont do it "t56 it"

found that. all you do is run the stock bell housing. and get there extended bushing if its a ls1 tranny. also the 11" t5 v8 clutch is a 27 spline clutch. and will fit a 2 piece rear main flywheel. |
Badass I knew? there had to be some sort of adapter. Now what about using the electronic controls
Huh? like skip shift or reverse lock out? if there is No Power They Dont Work. just make sure you shift into 5th not reverse. and FUCK skip shift! or you can do one better and put the lock out on a toggle. all it needs is 12v.
kevin, not sure if you know this but manual trannys dont have electronic controls ya dumb douche cunt!
