So I took the advise, thoughts?

Since most of you thought 20's were to big I purchased some 17's. I put them on tonight. From what I understand they are pretty rare, they were an option on the Lingerfelter LT4 Corvette package. They have not been in production for over 10 years. I looked online and could not find the sizes, bolt patern or width all in the same style so maybe these are rare? Who knows? Who cares....I like the style of them. They are 3 peice 17x9.5. Tires are 275/40/17 on all four corners. So the question, which ones to you like better....old chrome ones or new machined 17s? Im up in the air.....once again be honest! Thoughts??

BadBird505 04-01-2012 03:53 AM

definitely better then the 20's

My84Z 04-01-2012 03:55 AM

Better then the 20's for driving not for show though.

DemonWithin99 04-01-2012 04:13 AM

polish up the 17's

holokosta 04-01-2012 04:14 AM

As long as you likem man. I think they look sweet.

My84Z 04-01-2012 04:15 AM

Btw those are enkie wheels i think v1's maybe tbyrnes car had them and a few others i don't believe they were ever a stock wheel.

Kalstar 04-01-2012 12:09 PM

They were never stock, it is my understanding that these were part of the 410hp performance package as an additional option. The say Enkei on the front but are stamped LPE on the back. Could care less if I was sold a bill of goods or not, I purchased them at a reasonable amount. So.....chrome or the new silver ones?

DavidS 04-01-2012 02:12 PM

My vote is for the machined 17's. They look great!

20's are for a pimp-mobile.

ZFreie 04-01-2012 02:16 PM

17s are WAY better!

ILuvPizzaTimes10 04-01-2012 02:38 PM

yeah 17's look great and will ride MUCH better. for the Shows depending on wich you goto. the 20's would have done you good at the world of wheels. but not so much at a bass pro shops type show. you know what i mean?

Formula413 04-01-2012 07:19 PM

I think those 17s plus a 1" drop and it will look mint

black heartbeat 04-02-2012 04:26 AM

17s look awesome, polish em up tho? make them pop a bit?

941LE 04-02-2012 08:54 AM

17s. IMO the 20s looked lie garbage. The only wheels that look good on our cars close to 20s are CCWs and Finkse and I'm a couple others. To early to think of them.

Kalstar 04-02-2012 12:36 PM

Ok, 17's it is. Silver or black center? I am going to pull one apart tonight, throw it on buffing wheel and test some different colors. Looks like the shinny parts are clear coated. The wheels will look much better freshened up with clean painted centers. Ill put them back on after the car is painted next week.

The wheels came from Lingerfelter in 1995 at a cost of 335.00 each. With mounting and tires they cost just over 2k, that's a boat load for 17 years ago. Came with a great set of "spare" Goodyears, 20 lugnuts, 4 locking lugs (with key) and 8 center caps (4 still in their boxes).

Anyone what to guess what I stole them for??

Is craigslist your friend too?

KLAB 04-02-2012 03:56 PM

those look way better and id keep them original because those are hard to find.

Formula413 04-02-2012 09:18 PM

I think a bowtie centercap would look pretty cool, you can get those from Brent Franker for a good price. Plus it's just a sticker so it's not like you're messing up a rare wheel.

BryanH 04-02-2012 09:21 PM

Enkei Win Wheels? Haven't seen those in years. They were pretty common a while back.

BigMac76 04-02-2012 10:41 PM

Personally I like the 17" as well. The 20's just seem like overkill man. And yeah if you can get in touch with Brent, go with the bowtie sticker. It's only a sticker after all and can be removed at any time.

Formula413 04-02-2012 11:01 PM

Something like this would look nice:

Im on it. Are they a standard size?

I met an airbrush guy at World of Wheels yesterday. I am thinking of doing airbrushed rally stripes and side graphics down low along the bottom of the car. I was thinking dark gray stripes with black airbrush (no colors) al-a black and white ink tattoos. Remember I am going for a show look. I want to be into this project no more than 25k so I have about 11k left dedicated to this car. I would like to keep as many of the modifications "period correct" meaning what would I have done to this car back when I was 22 if I could have afforded it. Cam, heads even the supercharger were the top of the line in the mid 90's but have long been past by better technologies. I want a car that is true to the time period....does this make any sense?

Guess this build will be a community project. Advise wanted and appreciated.

Thoughts???

There are a few different sizes, just take a measurement and you can get the size you need.

Thx formula, I ordered those center cover decals. Thanx for the point in the right direction. BTW, The longer the wheels are on the car the more I like them...definitely keepers. Anyone looking for a set of (4) Y2K polished OEM wheels??

ILuvPizzaTimes10 04-07-2012 01:00 AM

pics?!?!?!

Ashman333 04-07-2012 01:54 AM

10x's better then the 20's, now i can actually look at your car and say "hey, that's a damn nice camaro."

Thanx for the compliment, I'm looking forward to showing the labor off when it is closer to a complete car.

Pizza, I'll post some pics tomorrow of the wheels. Front tires OK, rears suck. The wheels are perfect. No Idea what they are worth.

I was just taking a random guess lol

Adam (Black Heartbeat) has offered to assist in installing some go fast parts with me. With his help, hopefully I can get the car to paint in May and driving/showing in early June. This is a no budget build, looking to take a few trophys away from you LS1 guys and if you care to run maybe your dignity too. All kidding aside, he spent most of the afternoon under my car, just wanted to send out thanx and acknowledgment of his efforts.

How long to put in drop springs with new shocks. 5 hrs sound right?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-02-2012 02:20 AM

new shocks and new upper mounts for the front then yes. usually water get trapped up there and REALLY fucks up those top strut lock nuts. usually have to torch them out.

Rears are easy. Fronts can be a lot of work depending on what you are using to compress the springs. Getting the assembled strut back in was kind of a PITA too. Also you might break an end link or two.

Kalstar 05-04-2012 05:33 PM

The bolts are rusted to hell, guess I'll need to break out the torch. We are going to put the headers in first while we are waiting on the other parts to arrive.
