LS1 to LT1 tail lights...
Ok guys, getting a set of lt1 tail lights from somebody and going to be putting them on the car. I did search the forums here and didn't see anybody who has written up a how to just yet. Seems fairly easy, the lights are coming with the original bulb sockets as well. So I'm thinking of setting it up where all sections light up with the parking lights on instead of the inners only.
Anybody do this yet and if so, any certain things I should look out for along the way? |
As long as you get the sockets n such u should b fine, I remember tab differences that's another it
All I did was used the same wires and wiggled them in they are fine some people use a dremel to open the holes alittle.
Holy shit! people actually put lt1 parts on their ls1 cars???? isnt that like bad luck or something???? lol
well they look better lol
Maybe that's why i break shit!
they won't light the same if you use the LS1 harness. and the pigtails are different. the connectors do fit if you shove them in as john sed. i say dremel out the holes as he also suggested because the LT1 harness/connectors run push and twist bulbs and the LS1 harness runs the Better spade type push in. and as far as the lighting goes. the LS1 has the amber directional. Lt1 doesn't SOO on the LT1 the whole tail light(red) lights for brake and directional. were as the LS1 just the outer most bulns will light. i think it looks shitty like that. but its not an easy fix.
I will be tapping into the rear harness and doing it correctly so the whole rear light will illuminate as it should. And yes, the LT1 tail lights flow much better with the body lines on the hatch than those ungodly amber lenses that came on the ls1's. Now if it was the import lights, they'd either be getting replaced with the lt1 lights and stored in a safe place, or sold lol. Will do a write up when i get the lights with pics if anybody would be interested in it. Might post it up somewhere else and just link to it from here to use their bandwidth lol.

k i have done this and this is what i did.
step 1 take old tail lights out step 2 you have to splice in and add a wire from the outer to the inner turn signal socket in order for the brake and running lights to light up step 3 take one of the LS style sockets and mark on the housing where you need to use a dremal or other tool to trim to get the bulb to go in nicely. step 4 add the duel filament bulbs where necessary step 5 install pre 1997 LT1 lights step 6 step back and enjoy all your work and look at that sexy ass. |
Hahaha I guess that's to the point.
Way too much involved just plug them in lol
^^ YUP!
amd if you bypass the DRL module if you just jumper the turns to the brake/turn outside bulb wire the front markers light up wen you hit the brakes....... |
ok so found a passenger side tail light at the junkyard i went to yesterday. they had shit for 4th gen f-bodies there, a total of 3, and one 82-92 firebird. all 4 of them were cannibalized pretty bad. so i snagged the one decent light. checked fitment on the car and it looks sexy! cleaned up the sockets a bit to accept the newer style bulb socket. here's a few pics of it:

I would wire them as the LT1 because the way LT1 tails light up really makes it. I hate LS tails!
Yeah, going to put some work into it and do it the right way so they light up as the lt1's should. Probably just going to stuff them in there for now until I can get the extra time to do it.
I sent you a PM about having tail lights but it seems like you're good lol.
Yeah thanks man. Got to get the other light from the guy off ebay. Depending on how it looks, he said cosmetically light is great but for $25 shipped, we'll see. Might be getting in touch with ya when it gets here.
make sure its not separating across the top near the hatch. they do it alot and leak and blow bulbs like crazy! good luck!
Thanks man, will definitely check it out when it gets here. Should be here tomorrow, shipped out of Bethpage, Long Island, NY yesterday. Will update the thread with pics and install steps when it gets done.
i just modified the holes with a dremel and plugged em in..i like the way they light up with the ls1 harness but thats just me lol
Just got the drivers side today. Cut the holes a bit larger with a file to keep the edges clean. Looks pretty good for now. Left the sockets alone for now, might just check it out in the morning when I go into work and see how it looks. Who knows, I might just leave it like it is as well...
Don't mind all the dirt on the car, been a week and a half since she's gotten a bath last lol http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicle...6521366101.jpg Updated with new pics of them at 4:30 this morning... 1st pic was with the flash on the camera, second without http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicle...6521366102.jpg http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicle...6521366103.jpg |
Looks good

selling the car now? http://worcester.craigslist.org/cto/3135477217.html
Yeah Man WTFFFFFF
Yeah well a buddy of mine from Assonet has a 68 Z clone he's been working on for the last few years, and is missing a title. He's looking to possibly sell it since it's been almost 3 yrs and he hasn't gotten any notification from the registry yet on the title. It's pretty much complete, just need to finish the body work and paint, full interior and slap the drivetrain back into it. All the skins have been replaced, floor pans welded in correctly. So if the car goes, that'll be my next project. I've been dying for years to get my hands on one, and if it goes like planned, then I'll have the one car I've truly wanted for years now.
i prefer the ls1 taillights but that does look really good with your car. Probably because its white.
amber = gay
After seeing the difference the lt1 style I think looks way better.
The more and more i learn about the differences between ls1 and lt1 appearance i do not like ls1s lol |
Yeah I hear ya there. Love the front end of the LS1's, just somebody f--ked up the ass end of that car with the "euro" tails in the back. Although the export lights are pretty sexy, no friggin way would I put em on my car. I'm still half tempted to wire the parking lights into the turn signals and put a 3057/3157 into them. I'm kinda diggin the way they look now though as it sits.
Next thing I might do is add some clear or blackout parking and side markers on it. I think the blackouts would really stand out with the white, but might just want to blend in with the clears. Not 100% sure, but leaning more towards the blackouts I think. |
