Terry's 1988 Camaro

At first this project started with just valve seals and head gaskets for a 2.8. As I got into it, it started looking expensive and I dont want to drop several hundred dollars into that pathetic thing.

I got hold of a 350 out of a 77 truck. I havnt picked it up yet so im not sure about the specific details except that it has about 80,000 miles on it.The 2.8 was fuel injected so im removing a lot to convert to a carberated setup. Im aware of the changes that need to be made such as a mechanical fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, etc. My k member has the hole pattern for a 350 and i believe the suspension and rear end are the same thats used in an IROC.

Ive herd 50/50 on using a world class T5 with a 350. I know theres bell housing that will match it up. If it turns out the motor is too much for the tranny ill swap it but Ive read about a lot of people who arent having any issues pairing the two up.

Heres some current progress and pics of the 2.8. Im in the process of sanding down the body for a single stage of paint, removing wires and anything unnecessary, as well as the motor itself obviously.

Looks like a fun project.

Very nice. Good luck with it.

Thanks guys. Progress is kind of slow. Been working a lot of hours so I'm either at work or too tired a lot of the time. Gonna try to get something done today.

Currently I'm trying to remove and orginize wires. Not going to need a lot of them.

you will need a V8 tranny cross-member. possibly drive shaft depending on which you have in your car. and you will need a V8 input shaft on the 2.8 tranny If thats what you meant by using the world class in the car? i did the same conversion and it was Not cheap. used a 1983 firebird 2.8/200-4r car and went 355/th350. can be a fun build but A lot of things are different. wish you the best of luck!

Just throwing it out there, ditch the a/c box. Best thing I ever did in my 86 Iroc.

Doesn't it also house the blower motor or is that just for the ac? I had though about removing it but I got harassed a lot about having no heat which personally I don't care about.

BigMac76 05-08-2013 12:31 PM

Yup it does. But you can get a non ac box to go in its place, makes plug changes a 100x easier.

Current pictures. Going through wires. It was easier for me to just cut the connectors and pull all the wires and then splice back the ones I need. It was such a mess, sifting through that clusterfunk would've taken forever.

Im leaning towards removing the blower motor etc. and then welding some sheet metal to cover the holes.

Just cut a sheet of aluminum and drill holes where needed, seal it with some permatex and done.

WOOOOHOOOO stripper! Lol

Looks like you are making decent progress. Going with a painless wiring harness or making your own?

I'm splicing my own wires both for simplicity and learning. Thanks for the reply :D
