Need a truck...Suggestions?
Welp I'm sick of driving my car everyday and need something to drive thru the winter. I can't stand the thought of crashing my car again.
I'm looking at ECSB Sierras (99-) but finding them with minimal rust is tough. How do you guys feel about these trucks? Are there common issues I should worry about? My moms got a silverado and has put over 100k on it with hardly any effort. Would you guys recommend something else? Gas mileage isn't important since my work is 5 miles from my house...has to be a truck tho I just want to gather some thoughts! |
I had a 98 Tahoe 2 door. Loved that truck. Had 188000 when I sold it. No major issues ball joints up front. Mainly just one that's not rotted out. I did go through 3 rear diffs finally junked the factory g80 after the second Grenade and put in an eaton LSD. Other than that no major issues.

I purchased a 2001 extended cab 4x4 Z71 a few months back with 104k on the clock, clean as a whistle for 7200.00. Runs and drives as new. I will never buy another new truck again. I average about 17mpg and it pulls the car trailer with little effort.

my sister has a 2002 yukon with 230k never had any problems other then a few fuel pumps! the chevy silverado/GMC sierra 4x4 is the way to go.. i got a 04 ext cab 178k runs and drives as good as the day my dad bought it new! i bought it off him 2yrs ago with 155k for 5k..its the best truck ive ever owned! i get about 15 city mpg with a 7 yr old flowmaster exhaust, cold air kit and BFG's. HWY-18mpg

look for 2002 plus. 99-01 have rot issues under the master cylinder causing some bad brake lines. i get 18mpg highway in my 2500 avalanche!! its only a little 8.1 liter.....

GET A HEMI!!! Listen to pizza, 99-01= junk, I had a 99 gmc reg cab short bed, brake lines rotted to shit, rear ended some lady in traffic cuz I blew a brake line, then I blew a second one, frame cracked in half on both sides, truck was still clean, had it welded, cost me 850 to get that done, transfer case was shit after one winter. But to be honest, ive had em all, ford, dodge, chevy, gmc, they can all be good trucks as long as you take care of them, and you look before you buy, take your time, and dont jump on the first truck you like, make sure you buy a gem.

I'd buy a cheap 4 banger truck. Good on gas and cheap to fix. I dont really know much about trucks but i do know those older tacoma's are pretty damn tough.

like keith sed transfer case. make sure it works and its NOT leaking. and the whole 4 banger truck thing. what a USELESS combination! i had a 4 cyl. S10. Slow, Sucked on Gas, and Could Tow A Shopping Cart MAYBE!

hay I miss the S dime i would have bought it but up my way any thing less than a 2500 hd is useless. honestly I like the old body style stuff but for some one that just needs it as a DD i would say any thing with a 5.3 and check for rot like every one else says .

Bahahaha S dime, thats a good one lol

but on topic...2003 and up gm trucks dont have the rust issues like the 99-02 trucks did. you can get a 4x4 5.3 2003-2005 pretty cheap now and they hold up really well. my buddy has a 03 with 150k on it and has not had to do a thing to it yet |
I REALLY like my 2003 Silverado 2500HD. It can tow my enclosed trailer and car with no problems.

2005 Tahoe Z71
I've got no idea on the dealer or the actual truck, but happened upon it and thought it might be of interest. Our in-laws have always had Tahoes - Very Nice Trucks and no issues towing that I know about! |
