Hard to tell from that pic but I wouldn't chance it on gears, if they were damaged by UPS can you file a claim?

*LS1* Queen 02-23-2010 11:55 PM

cant see from the pic but if they are chipped do not put those in ur car! file a claim and get new ones.

Batman 02-24-2010 12:05 AM

I'm with Maddie, chipped gears are asking for bad news.

Edit: BTW take it out of the toilet before you take the picture next time :)

DemonWithin99 02-24-2010 12:16 AM

<< ask for better pic in order to get clearer answer... lol

yeah claim it with ups.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-24-2010 12:47 AM

Better pic to be sure. are they used or new?

BadBird505 02-24-2010 12:51 AM

they are used, you can actually see the wear line on the pinion and its nowhere near the chip mark, now what about just replacing the pinion is that possible?

i would personally NEVER use used gears. unless for a track only run it to blow it on a budget rear end they will always make noise and wont last. reason being is i dont care how Good you are at setting up gears. you can never acheive the same attack angles unless they are put back into the same exact housing they came from. So the damage on those will just add to a not reliable rear end anyway. i say file a claim. But how do you know it was from shipping? do you have the chips that came off? the damage pictured can happen from inner pinion bearing failure as well.

Agreed 100%!

BadBird505 02-24-2010 01:01 AM

i have the pieces that broke off, it's alright i'm only out $75 no big deal, just going to keep my 3.23's and just install the SS3600 converter and shift kit.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-24-2010 01:06 AM

whats the STR on the SS3600? you might want to look into a complete rear end anyway. the hit from a converter will blow a rear end just the same as dumping a clutch might be time to save up for a 9" or 12 bolt.

id return it to who u bought them off of and get ur money back.

BadBird505 02-24-2010 01:12 AM

yeah i thought about that but i don't 1/4 mile my car so i don't abuse her, the ss3600 will be fun to drive on the street, plus next year i will be giving my car to slowhawk for a cam install

i just emailed him.

*LS1* Queen 02-24-2010 01:14 AM

ya i wouldnt be worried about that stall with ur rear...ur not beatin the piss out of the car and id be more worried about the tranny than the rear lol. i know a few people running that converter and they have no issues what so ever.

DemonWithin99 02-24-2010 01:16 AM

ditch the used gears save up a little, if you plan on adding a converter and gears then do them together. or at most grab a better rear end. (and no pizza I'm not talking grab ass)
many would say opt for a cam too, but it's a lot to do at once.

I'd ask Don what he could do for you. He's got the ability to not only install all of it but tune it for you so you won't kill it.

BadBird505 02-24-2010 01:26 AM

i going to do the converter this year with an LS6 intake and P/P TB,shift kit and next year cam/head work

Batman 02-24-2010 01:55 AM

you know new gears only cost about $50-$75 more....

BadBird505 02-24-2010 01:58 AM

i was just trying to save a few buck (laid off)

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-24-2010 02:19 AM

i hear yah but sometimes saving a few bux in the long run just isnt worth it.

No, gears are made as matched sets, so the ring and pinion have to stay together.

c4boom 02-24-2010 03:57 AM

I would claim it too though if you can
