LS1 to LT1 tail lights...
Ok guys, getting a set of lt1 tail lights from somebody and going to be putting them on the car. I did search the forums here and didn't see anybody who has written up a how to just yet. Seems fairly easy, the lights are coming with the original bulb sockets as well. So I'm thinking of setting it up where all sections light up with the parking lights on instead of the inners only.
Anybody do this yet and if so, any certain things I should look out for along the way? |
As long as you get the sockets n such u should b fine, I remember tab differences that's another it
|
All I did was used the same wires and wiggled them in they are fine some people use a dremel to open the holes alittle.
|
Holy shit! people actually put lt1 parts on their ls1 cars???? isnt that like bad luck or something???? lol
|
well they look better lol
|
Maybe that's why i break shit!
|
they won't light the same if you use the LS1 harness. and the pigtails are different. the connectors do fit if you shove them in as john sed. i say dremel out the holes as he also suggested because the LT1 harness/connectors run push and twist bulbs and the LS1 harness runs the Better spade type push in. and as far as the lighting goes. the LS1 has the amber directional. Lt1 doesn't SOO on the LT1 the whole tail light(red) lights for brake and directional. were as the LS1 just the outer most bulns will light. i think it looks shitty like that. but its not an easy fix.

I will be tapping into the rear harness and doing it correctly so the whole rear light will illuminate as it should. And yes, the LT1 tail lights flow much better with the body lines on the hatch than those ungodly amber lenses that came on the ls1's. Now if it was the import lights, they'd either be getting replaced with the lt1 lights and stored in a safe place, or sold lol. Will do a write up when i get the lights with pics if anybody would be interested in it. Might post it up somewhere else and just link to it from here to use their bandwidth lol.

k i have done this and this is what i did.
step 1 take old tail lights out step 2 you have to splice in and add a wire from the outer to the inner turn signal socket in order for the brake and running lights to light up step 3 take one of the LS style sockets and mark on the housing where you need to use a dremal or other tool to trim to get the bulb to go in nicely. step 4 add the duel filament bulbs where necessary step 5 install pre 1997 LT1 lights step 6 step back and enjoy all your work and look at that sexy ass. |
Hahaha I guess that's to the point.
