Yeah there's a lot of crusty spots and structurally there's a lot of metal fatigue. I've literally cracked both rear frame rails twice.
So, this round is going to be new rear frame rails, ditch the fuel cell for a tank in the factory location, new trunk floor, new front floor pans, rework the rear downtubes on the rollcage so I can reinstall a back seat (have kids now and they need a comfy place to sit), graft on a c5 zo6 front clip which will give me power rack and pinion steering, huge front brakes, and modern steering geometry.
Also planning to ditch the 12 bolt rear along with the leaf springs and switch over to a truck arm rear suspension like the NASCAR cup cars use (been going over lots of options there for a while, that style seems to be the best for what I'm looking for). Then run a 9" rear that matches the vette clips track width.
Then, pulling out what's left of my grenaded 455 and swapping in a 6.0 lq4 along with a turbo and adding an extra pedal so I can run a t56 behind it.
That about sums up this years plans and will definitely finish off any spare cash I can dig up lol. The car has been set up as a drag car it's whole life with me but I just never really have the time to get to the track and now that I have a family I want something more useful. I like driving the car. Done both east coast power tours with it and gone to the Woodward dream cruise. I wouldn't subject the family to that torture though the way it was lol.
Time to make it a nicer all around more useful car
