Default Whats the difference?

Ok, so Ive been wondering this for a long time, you see parts for 93 camaros only and then you see parts for 94 and 95 camaros only. Whats the difference between the 93 LT1s and the 94 LT1s? I know one difference is that my car (a 1993) does not have a MAF.

A '93 has a totally different computer. It has an engine control module (ECM) to run the engine that actually uses a chip, so tuning is done by burning different chips. '94 and up use a powertrain control module (PCM) which controls both the engine and transmission and does not use chips, but rather is reflashed for tuning. The transmissions are different as well, if it's an auto it's a 4L60 as opposed to a 4L60E (electronically controlled via PCM), and if it's a 6 speed it has a lower first gear ratio and a different rear axle ratio (2.73 or 3.23, as opposed to 3.42 for '94 and up 6 speeds). Also as you noted the '93 has no MAF sensor and uses a speed density tune. I believe the injectors are smaller on a '93 as well. Pizza knows all this stuff, I'm sure he will chime in.

Not necessarily, just different. You can bet the 94 is more efficient though

I remember reading somewhere that it was said that the '93 had a slightly bigger cam, now I dont know how much truth there is behind that, personally I dont think its true lol

No, the cam was the same 93-95, and only a tiny bit different from 96-97. 93-95 are all rated at 275 hp stock, it's not likely that a '93 would be significantly faster or slower than a 94-95.

incorrect. cams are different. ive never been able to track down an Actual Spec on the cam BUT they are different numbers from the GM Book. 93 had 19lb injectors. 94+ has 24. exhaust manifolds are COMPLETLY different. smog pump is mounted on the block 1993 and on the frame rail 94+. cylinder heads as well are different casting numbers that flow the best(debatable) but aren't as portable friendly. Intake is again different as the guys covered, But as i recently found out(suicidal racing) they are better for porting. the front suspension has SLIGHT differences. most aftermarket parts will fit But the geometery gets wierd on the alignment rack. i think its the over all height of the knuckle. 94+ is shorter. by fractions of an inch. the 93 offered 2 ratio choices in the T56. if you had a 2.73 rear ratio the first gear of the 6 speed was 3.07. if you had a 3.23 as i did stock the first gear was the Sought after 2.97 ratio. can i go on? or did i cover the basics? Ohh and the valve springs and retainers are different. Almost all of this is the same for 92-93 vette as well. PM me if you wanna know more.

Good info Mike. Yeah there's lots of little differences. But:

I have a 95 and my AIR pump WAS mounted on the block. Hmmm. and you didn't really state which heads/intake you're talking are better for porting (due to suicidal) 93's or 94+?

Yeah, my 95 had the air pump on the block too.

As did my 95 caprice, course at that point it's apples to oranges.
