Thanks for all of the suggestions guys, thats exactly the information I needed. Especially since some of you have seen the quality of work. I have one estimate scheduled tomorrow and will hopefully get to see APC in the next day or two as well. Cross your fingers that it doesn't end up totaled. I'd love to fix it myself, but with the short window of 30 days (time allowed for the rental) I don't think I could get all of the work done in time and it'll become a poor financial decision. I just hate the thought of a clean car going to a pick and pull over damage that isn't that significant.
I suppose I could just buy it back and sell it, but even that takes time that I don't have...

If it does gen totaled you can buy I back and just have it fixed if you want. In mass anything over 10 years old (unless it's commercial iirc) doesn't need to have a salvage title.
On an older car all totaled means is they aren't going to give you more than the cars worth to fix it. Only down side is that until you have new pics taken by ins co (checkpoint inspection like when first insured usually) if something else happens they wont give you anything for it.
Trust me, been in the industry for a long time and even dealt with similar situation before I was.
I was out cruising around on my 19th birthday (looong time ago lol) in my 68. Stopped at a light and a kid in a baretta drove right into the back end of me. Well, ins co totalled the car. I bought it back fixed it up some and just kept on cruising. No salvage title or anything. No loss on ins or registration either. They just won't let you have full coverage until it's officially repaired.

Even if you buy something over 10 years old from the salvage auctions in mass you don't get a salvage title. Only the newer cars have to deal with that. So, food for thought.

Oh, and another thought, if they try to total it you can argue the amount. As long as the car is pretty clean, which it looks to be from the pics, and you keep your cool when you debate the amount you can try and talk them out of totaling it.

My 87, orange car in my sig, had a bunch of tree branch damage from an ice storm a couple years back. They wrote $2,200 on the estimate, then tried to total it and send me a check for $700. I laughed at them, spoke to a couple different people and explained how the car has had such and such done to it and is worth far more than a stock uncared for example. They eventually caved, sent the full check for the appraisal, and politely told me not to ask for any supplements lol.

Sometimes that works though. But, not always. Best way is to have an appraisal for value in hand and insure the car for that value. Otherwise it can be a pain.

my car was going to be totaled. i gave them a stack of receipts for the engine/swap and various other shit at the appraisal. dont know if you have anything along those line in that car but the 10k in receipts the guy saw swayed his judgment.

Its funny you say that because I was wondering if that might be influential. I have 2 folders devoted to this car, from mods, to repairs, maintenance, down to turn signal bulbs.

Insurance adjuster just called too. They should be able to see me sometime tomorrow-Tuesday. Damn holidays.
They did state that they were going to go after the other jerks insurance since this was a cause and effect accident. I expressed my concern that I was goin gto be lowballed for my car because of its age and firmly stated that this isn't your ordinary 20+ year old car. With any luck, receipts and due dilligence will help.

We'll see how this goes. I'm headed to APC this afternoon for my own estimate and to check out the facility. The fellow I spoke with has 4 2nd gens. Thanks for the recomendation, it definitely sounds like the kind of place I want to do business with.
