I ordered new lifter cups and a crank bolt. The lifters didn't stay in them when I pulled them out.

I'm gonna tinker with it this week a little bit before the rest of the parts come in. Got a new water pump and T-Stat, belts, tensioner pulley (got cracked in the process.. no clue how.) New exhaust bolts and a front timing cover gasket.

I had a lifter look just like that on a ls1 i bought. The chunk cracked the block inside. Never would have know externally. I agree with John.. cheap 6.0 and be done. Im sick of playing fuck fuck with my stuff.

I have the stock cam from my Camaro that came in today. Was in once of my bins at my parent's place. Gonna throw that in and see how this works. gonna use a 3m pad on the lifter bore tomorrow. Was too shitty today but I cleaned the heads up... or got one cleaned up. Pulled one broken exhaust bolt out of it. Was the one head that the guy didn't take out. I think he broke two exhaust bolts and said fk this and took the cheap route.

Valve seal on one of them is loose. gonna do those now too. (they came w the top end kit I ordered.) I chased all the threads out on everything. So much better now.
No casting numbers besides these (and one more on the adjacent runner I forgot to take a pic of.)

While you're right there maybe a new set of valve springs too?

Bayer-Z28 03-31-2015 11:09 PM

I thought about it.. But this is a slippery slope.... While I'm in here.... how about a VRX1 cam... hmmm.. While I'm in here, how about some hardened push rods... or headers.... . A new timing chain whil;e I've got the front end off... mind as well do a UDP.. lol I have to draw the line somewhere.. I DO have to take the valve springs off to do the seals.. hmmm..

*edit/update*

Holy hell.. stock springs are a LOT cheaper than I thought they were.. 0_o LS6 yellows anyone??

Wow.. reading about float on stock setups too. 0_o No bueno.

Bayer-Z28 04-01-2015 12:32 AM

Ordered a set of LS6 replacements.. .... 12499224 I hope they'll be ok with stock locks and retainers. I did some searching and it appears they'll be ok. I may call don tomorrow and ask him and see if he has a set of LS6 yellow locks and retainers laying around.

Turbo and TH-400 and then you're good.

Good call on the springs, they can be a maintenance item that gets overlooked.

you cookie wheeled aluminum heads

Just noticed that.. ouch.. Might as well have them milled now. Ive got some clean 241 heads if you need something cheap.
