another question

I plan on keeping my CATs and stock manifolds, just because I want to keep the comfort and noise low.....but I just saw SLP makes a factory replacement y pipe, that along with a 3" cutout (loud when I want to be) would it be worth getting? Will I see big gains over my factory y pipe/ and slp dual cat back? Just curious what an open cutout and slp y pipe would make for difference over stock y pipe and slp dual exhaust.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 12-15-2010 05:41 PM

SLP Y Pipe is a joke. the factory piece works fine if your keeping manifolds. just get a cut out added on if you want obnoxious later.

Batman 12-16-2010 04:51 AM

Actually the second generation Y-pipe is a nice piece, it doesn't hang as low as their original and has proven to gain a few ponies over the stock squished one. I'd get the maganflow cats and the Y-pipe. In factory trim you will gain pretty much nothing but noise with a cutout if you already have a catback.

whitdog54 12-16-2010 05:11 AM

Should I go to mangaflow hi flow cats? Will i gain lots of noise, thats all im worried about...its loud, but not too loud where i cant pass inspection, but if I can gain a good amount from thme and the y pipe, im gonna jump on it.

Batman 12-16-2010 03:11 PM

depends on what you consider a good amount, might gain 10 to the wheels total. If noise is the biggest concern then leave the stock cats on. I don't see the mags being much louder but I have no personal experience with the factory style ones

JoeyxGx2 12-16-2010 03:32 PM

Oo come on, put longtubes on ! Longtubes with no cats and a magnaflow won't be obnoxiously loud, probably quieter and less raspy than it is now, and better power gains than a cutout with a y pipe

Lol, oh yeah that'll be stealthy

JoeyxGx2 12-17-2010 10:52 AM

Thats the name of the game lol

*LS1* Queen 12-18-2010 12:03 AM

loud pipes save lives lol

JoeyxGx2 12-18-2010 01:03 AM

yes they sure do !

Haha I would like too, but I really doubt it'll be quieter then what it is now.

Will the EGR block off plates (like the ones on ls1speed) work on a factory manifolds? Doesnt matter right its all the same size?

Batman 12-22-2010 04:54 AM

yes they will work

JoeyxGx2 12-22-2010 12:46 PM

It'll be the same if not quieter lol

hmmm are you being serious. I love current cat back, but the interior drone I get on the high way BLOWS! If some LTs and a magnaflow catback are close to same noise level I might have to do it.... any input? lol I could always throw a high flow cat on the y pipe and maybe quite it a little more.

Im really on the fence here....i want to keep the comfort, but I want to break 12s.....3.73s, ls6 intake, LTs, ORY, magnaflow cat back. 555rs (no stall if I get LTs, i think i wanna stay away from a stall right now) would that be good for 12s? or damn close?

smokinss 12-24-2010 03:16 AM

I had the lm and loved it. Then I did a cam and it sounded good. But as soon as I did the lt and ory forget it, way too loud. So I got a magnaflow and a electric cutout. The magnaflow is nice and quiet at idle and loud at full throttle. Plus I've got the cutout when I really want to disturb the peace.

Those mods should net you 12s. My buddies first time out on plain street tires went 12.90s.
Camaro ss m6 lts ory ls6 pp throttle body lid borla exhaust

Formula413 12-24-2010 03:55 AM

I'm with them, Magnaflow with headers and no cats will still not be louder than a Loudmouth with stock everything else.

*LS1* Queen 12-24-2010 05:10 AM

my car went 12.8 with LTs ORY LS6 intake and 273s and that was bouncing off the rev limiter 2nd thru 3rd so it should have been even lower...ull def hit 12s dont worry lol. The magnaflow with ORY will sound really good. Its def not obnoxious like the loudmouth is.

whitdog54 12-24-2010 06:19 PM

I dont have a loudmouth, I have slp dual exhaust with the transverse muffler, the loudmouth is more like a resonator then a muffler LOL. this guy: http://www.ls1sounds.com/SLPdual-dual/dual-dual.jpg

^look at the crushed over axel pipe, do all exhaust systems have that crush to make clearance or no?

Plus, Im A4 will I still be able to crack 12s with those bolt ons? I kno the m6s are quicker.

Formula413 12-24-2010 08:02 PM

Oh sorry, I thought you had a Loudmouth. If you have a dual-dual I would keep it, those are very popular and you can't get them anymore, and it should do a pretty good job of taming a LTs/no cats exhaust. I would try that setup and if it's too loud or raspy for you add high flow cats.

And yes, you should have no trouble running 12's with bolt ons and a good tune. The 2.73s might make it a little harder but with some good air you will get there. Like Maddie was saying, her car did it with similar mods and 2.73s.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 12-25-2010 02:54 PM

fuck LT's and cat back. if you want less drone inside the car or to keep it the same you already have the best muffler for that. i like the Dual/Dual WAY more then the Magnaflow. But that my opinion.

Get a Stall. an SS3200 drives Just like stock. i cant even tell the difference for street driving in Last Of A Breeds Trans Am. but wen you wack it the car fucking PULLSSSSS and doesnt stop till the limiter!!!

If you want best bang for the buck get a stall run mid LOW 12's and be happy with the cars performance and driveability!

whitdog54 12-27-2010 06:40 AM

Alright^ thanks pizza, im thinking something like that stall, and 3.73.s or 3.42s, what evers gonna be the tightest, stockish feeling. Plus ls6 intake and P/P tb. THATS final, done bouncing back and forth haha. Thanks for the responses!

mighta already asked this, but will I run into any problems running a tranny cooler in the winter? I know ATF doesnt freeze til like -10 or something, but I can see that happening round here lol

Formula413 12-27-2010 10:01 PM

It might not lock up as quickly, if your gunna drive it in the winter it might be a good idea to bypass it.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 12-28-2010 02:42 AM

tranny fluid gets up wards of 250 in the winter or the summer. adding a cooler id run it year round. just dont go and beat on it while its cold.

whitdog54 03-02-2011 07:06 PM

Alright gonna bump this back up

Already tired of how quiet my exhaust is haha. So time to start looknig at some LTs.

I cant afford brand new stainless steel ARH or kooks headers. So ive just been browsing tech and stuff looking for used. Bad Idea buying used headers? I was looking at some SS LPP LTs and y pipe as well as TSP coated headers and catted y pipe.

TSPs are brand new, but not stainless, but the price was very good, Like 450 (cant find damn link right now) they were coated

The LPPs are SS, but seller says theyre the old style, with new style y pipe. He said resonator was welded in, but could be removed.

So save up for new kooks? or keep browsing for a good used deal? This tax money is burning a whole in my pocket!

*LS1* Queen 03-02-2011 09:29 PM

imo from someone that had to replace my headers already id wait till u can afford a nice set of stainless LTs that way u dont have to go thru what i did and spend alot of money cause the coated/ no coated ones didnt last. The Kooks are worth what u spend cause ur never gonna have to worry about replacing them. But hey if u have the cash and dont want to wait go for it lol

Formula413 03-02-2011 11:38 PM

I would definitely hold out for stainless, do it once, do it right. As for LPPs they sound great on paper but I have heard a lot about fitment issues. You might actually get the most bang for the buck with a nice catback and a good converter, it will sound great and launch harder. Both of those would impact the driving experience much more than LTs IMO.

whitdog54 03-03-2011 03:21 AM

I think Ill save up for stainless, I was thinking back now in my firebird and remembered how SHOT that coating was on pacesetter ypipe. I was looking to maybe get my ls6intake and the LTs done at once so I could get it all tuned at once, but cant afford that right now. Although, I did find QTP (which I though was good brand) SS LTs 1 3/4 for 400 bucks, thats like 50% off, still need y pipe, but mgiht be good move because im on budget. Guess ill sit on it til tomorrow

Guess im back to just ls6 intake and 3.42s for this year. Anyone know off hand how much Don would charge just to recalibrate for 3.42s?

*LS1* Queen 03-04-2011 04:58 AM

Call him

yay or nay?

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/parts-...kooks-etc.html

A little outta my price range, maybe can get him down a little

Batman 03-11-2011 01:03 AM

$800 for the longtubes with a catted Y is a fantastic price

Formula413 03-11-2011 01:30 AM

+1 on the Kooks, I would grab them up

ILuvPizzaTimes10 03-12-2011 10:58 PM

Kooks unless you feel like smashing your floors up and cutting your k member to get the LPP's to fit!

whitdog54 04-14-2011 04:31 AM

just an update.

car went 13.2 @ 106 launching from idle. Was having traction issues. Friend showed me how to properly launch the car though. Gonna go back, I had 2.1 60' gonna shoot for 2.0 or 1.9 and maybe go 12s. Car ran awesome, and seems like awesome times for lid/catback/2.73s.

Right now im waiting on my wieand intake and tb to come in. That along with a 10bolt with 3.42s that I picked up will be getting installed. Then im really thinking about sending it up to don for a dyno tune. Still on the fence about a stall, not sure if ill have enough cash for that.

for now, hoping to get back to LVD and go 12s this saturday!
