3000 stall max, 3200 is "bigger" since its a 3200rpm stall converter. 3.42s wont "kill" your mileage. mileage around town shouldnt change. you may lose a little on the highway unless you drive a little slower. 99-02 4 channel axle. i may be interested in selling mine out of my 99

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-20-2011 01:39 PM

95-97 LT1 axles reluctors are in a different spot. and the sensors wont pick them up if you use 98-02 axles. you will need All the wiring from the 98 car(as the connectors arent the same. and will probably need to use the LS1 backing plates and brake setup for it all to work with out some finess. But you should be able(if Your axles are still good?) to put them in the new rear end. ive never seen any one go threw all that trouble. Ditch Both. it makes life So much easier. and alot less wires hanging around.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-20-2011 01:43 PM

Why go lower on the stall? i say go big or go home? if you want to have fun with the car AND get a decent track time. i say go 3200+. after seeing and driving tonys car im a believer. The Yank converters are awesome. and with lock up tuned properly fuel mileage over a stock converter will Not bee affected on the high way.

ok so pizza, your saying get a 98-02 rear end and ditch both abs and asr? Cause then it will just get bolted up and I wont have to worry about wireing?

bottledbird68 05-20-2011 08:53 PM

Yes. That is what he is saying ;)

Check ls1tech or just use www.car-part.com.
That's where I got the 4th gen rear in my turd gen. Got luck and scored my 3.42 posi rear out an lt1 car for $150 on there a few years back.

CamaroRacing12 05-20-2011 08:54 PM

stall wise it all depends on what u are thinking ur setupi s going to be. imo the SS3600 is great for a bolt on only LT1 or a mild cam only or mild head cam car. i get about 20mpg on the highway iirc. driveability is great and i've cut a 1.67 60ft on literally bone stock suspension with less then 300rwhp

I'm trying to avoid a total strip car, I want a really solid street strip car.

I'm not going to point out the little things like supporting mods, just the bigger things.

The end goal (so ill say end of 2013) will be in between 350-400 rwhp. I'm only going to do ported heads and middle of the road cam and a stall. I think that should get me close to my power goal. I know Dyno #s arn't everything but thats just to give you an idea where I want to be for power. Id like to keep stock displacement if i can, or at most, a 355.

I plan on upgrading the suspension to handle corners; bigger sway bars, inch drop all around, and better shocks. a 9 inch at some point. I'm not going to be auto crossing with it, but i do like carving corners from time to time.

So i figure with some sticky tires and the above mods i should have a good performer on and off the track.

ZFreie 05-22-2011 01:14 AM

So, I ran into some money to finish buttoning up some loose ends on the camaro, Time to ditch the "stock" cat back with a magnaflow(i think, would have to look) in place of the stock muffler.

I'm thinking of running a long powerstick with a turn down just before the axle. Will this end up being WAY to loud and should i run a resionator/bullet in line with the powerstick? I'm looking for a cheap cheap cat back options. I have mild steel headers so I'm not investing in a stainless cat back. Gmmg, stainless works ect.

I'm also guessing it will free up a few hp too.

I've looked and looked and cant find anything with cat delete, lts, and y pipe to dumped powerticks. Everyone goes xpipe duals.
Thanks guys!
:wookie:

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-22-2011 01:47 AM

y not just straight pipe? haha Powersticks Really dont tone or quite the exhaust at ALL! and as far as the rwhp goes. i made 10 rwhp and 5mph at the track from swapping my Blowmaster to the Hooker Aero chamber. So if you have stockish exhaust youll make some more fo sho. haha i dunno i say go with a standard 3" cat back. you can pick em up used for Not alot of money. check out LS1 Tech there on there ALL the time!

Well I dont want to go duals, to much work and money, and how would a stright pipe sound running through a Ypipe with nothing else?

I'm just looking to get a SMALL SMALL amount of muffling in low rpms, and could care less the rest of the time, and wasn't sure if the power stick would do that. So will it?

And I will check out the f/s in 1s1tech, but a place in lowell sells the powersticks for 70~ bucks, plus a band clamp ~10 and a turn down ~ 10. If i can find a cat back shipped to my door for cheaper I will but...

Motaboata 05-22-2011 02:19 AM

I run a pipe dump over real axel...honestly is only loud loud over 50% throttle.... Im keeping it this way not going to change it lol... Only thing I will do is run tips out the back to make it look better if cops r behind me lol.....

Exhaust setup is
Pacesetter Headers to 2---3.5" ORY TO 3" pipe that dumps over axel...

So you run a straight pipe to dumped over the axle, no mufflers or anything? That would be even cheaper lol

KLAB 05-24-2011 04:45 AM

Just do what I did find a cheap complete 3.42 rear end, change seals and bearings and paint it and swap :)

We will see how the change from 2.73's is Pizza... :klab:

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-24-2011 01:14 PM

they have 6 and 7 speed manuals. fuck even an Fbody with 3.42 wont wont make a full pull in 6th without some Serious rwhp. the wind drag alone will make you hit a wall at about 165-170.... ask me how i know...... :)

Well, i was figuring a 600+ hp car, and unless i missed something there is only a single fbody on here with that kind of power. But it was still a joke, lol just saying a 4 speed auto with 2.73s and 600hp would have a nasty third gear pull. Supra style lol

Ohhh you have cats, see I don't have cats on my car, just long tubes and off road y. I know cats do ALOT to get rid of rasp and stuff, any thoughts on how it would sound with out cats?

Poked around on ls1tech, cant find a cat back for less the 200, and thats not shipped either. I tried pizza lol

Any one know if that power stick i was looking at will kill any of the rasp?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-24-2011 06:01 PM

The gmmg on lt. Ls1 cars sounds like shit as well does the corsa. I say stay away from that junk if you don't want rasp. Granted an lt has less rasp. It will still sound like crap imo. If you like that sort of thing ok but I personally don't like it.

Uhh pizza, was there ment to be more on the beginning of that message? Cause if not, thats kinda broken and have no idea what you were getting at lol

SLP IROC-Z 05-24-2011 10:35 PM

a stock ls1 6 speed will pull over 160mph, just takes alot of road.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-24-2011 11:27 PM

yeah i was typing from my phone. i have No idea now what i was trying to say. But the GMMG is very similar to the power sticks, Chambered Muffler is all it really is and they sound like Crap on an uncatted LS1 i think. if you like rasp and pop then its for you. Now you have an LT1? my LT1 with a catted y pipe and the loudmouth(similar tone to the powerstick) sounded AWESOME! now i took the cats off and HOLY GOD! did it sound like shit! But again thats my opinion. its all the sound YOUR looking for. if you like up Wide open RIP then get the powerstick but part throttle and wen DFCO(Decel Fuel Cut Off) kicks in its gunna sound poopy i think.

Correct, i have a lt-slow. and my car pops some as is, so ill keep researching and if i can't find anything i might try it and know forever first hand. hahah

ZFreie 05-25-2011 10:51 PM

Ok, what about Moroso Spiral Flow Mufflers, a single one dumped over the axle, seems like it might muffle more down low and be loud as, well you get the idea.

So at it stands either im gonna do power stick dumped or a sprial flow dumped,

What are peoples votes?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-26-2011 12:49 AM

just get a single chamber flow master its the same thing but cheaper. yeah yeah its Not the same internals. But a chambered muffler is a chambered muffler in my book.

did a quick search, and couldn't find one for much cheaper, looks like 10 or 20 bucks difference.

KLAB 05-26-2011 03:37 AM

I <3 the sound of magnaflow catback with LT's and ORY!!! mellow idle and low rpm sound and it sounds great at like 2500/3k-forever. But we all know a stock LT1 cant rev forever because that would be too much never-ending epicness.

I also will add that I believe rectangular/oval shaped exhaust tips make the exhaust sound great. I went from magnaflow cannons to SLP CME and changed the whole sound they're like trumpets....

I'm gonna be dumping it under the car ;) so no "cat back", I'm looking for JUST a muffler, cause I'm cheap when I can be...

KLAB 05-26-2011 04:18 AM

dumps make the whole inside of the car vibrate. but hey cheap massage...

poly motor mounts, car already vibrates some. Remeber this is not my DD, and alot of things that would bug the shit out of most people wouldn't bother me, but at the same time it goes the other way to.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 05-26-2011 01:48 PM

i dunno try running your car open headers for a cruise of 40 miles round trip and wen you get out and your ears ring..... DD or not i wouldnt dump it anywere but after the axle. thats my 2 cents. i think tonys car has the Best "race" exhaust here. and an exhaust shop could make it for fucking Cheap!

Well, open headers vs some kinda of muffler dumped around the axle is gonna be a big difference. When i say dumped i mean I wont have tips sticking out the back. So before, over or after the axle wont matter to me very much. Only gonna be a few more inches of pipe.

Remember I'm trying to keep costs down, which is why i didn't go stainless, i would have paid more for a full stainless exhaust then i did for the car.... Im cutting corners in places that dont matter.

:edit: whats tony have for an exhaust set up?

Formula413 05-27-2011 01:27 AM

If you want a cheap exhaust do what I did and put a single in/out muffler in place of the stock one with an elbow and turn down. I have a Hooker Aerochamber muffler that would fit if you are interested, only has about 100 miles on it. Bought it to see if it would sound different than the Magnaflow I have now but it was pretty much the same so I took it back off.

After looking back at the paper work, it has a new muffler on, and I'm pretty sure its a magnaflow in place of the stocker. Ill check again in the morning to make sure its still there LOL and if it is it isnt near loud enough.

Serious question, if it is a magnaflow, there wouldnt be a big difference in putting yours or an aerochamber on in place of it correct? Even dumping it?

I think thats the case but wanna make sure.

Formula413 05-27-2011 03:30 AM

No if you have an aftermarket muffler in place of the stocker it won't be much louder if at all.
