OPTI PARTY @ KLAB's!!!
Your first description of what was happening to it sounded way too familiar. The Opti's the only reasonable/acceptable and expected solution. The biggest flaw with the LT's IMO. |
have fun lol
should take you NO MORE then 2 hours to change it. if it does hang up the tools.
LOL its easy I just took one off my other motor to test it so I know what to do.
Hello test mule :) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...8/IMAG1184.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...8/IMAG1185.jpg Take off harmonic balancer water pump 3 bolts boom. But DAMN! Hopefully I find a cheap Ac Delco... Or else I'll be tempted to start bastardization ;) :klab: |

Take your time. |

I'm gonna take my opti off and disassemble it clean out all the oil and put it back together nice and sealed up and new oil gasket. Hopefully its the oil leak into the opti obstructing the optical view to get the pulses. I have a leak into the opti if I pull my boots off there is oil on the terminals coming from INSIDE the opti...

eeewww... you got snot buildup. you should blow your nose more often...
LT1 boogas
looks like MJ awake from the dead!
ewwwww
and there it is! clean i all off with a good no flash contact cleaner and it should be all set as long as you dont see any carbon tracking on the cap.

Pics of this Saturday's dissection:
I took apart my opti, cleaned the small amount of oil in it. swapped the optical sensor with that of my spare working opti, and put it all back together cleaned. it started. then turned off and no start again. :( No leak on the timing cover to the opti http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1210.jpg I replaced these rubber o-rings on the opti shaft, as the factory service manual says to do. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1208.jpg Only source of leaky oil on the front cover, the water pump drive seal out the timing cover. I think small amounts land on the opti and seep their way inside. BTW the opti isn't a perfectly sealed device... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1213.jpg Common rotor wear. (spark is not the issue anyways, just a cool pic) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1216.jpg |
Notice lack of oil, not what I was expecting...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1218.jpg When I saw this, I shit bricks. This HAD to be it. Oil on the optical sensor. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1219.jpg Some splatter. Maybe it leaked a little through the shaft? But there was no oil around the seal. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1225.jpg I didn't bother to clean this. I knew the optical sensor worked in my test unit. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1226.jpg So we swapped em http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1228.jpg Cleaned everything http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1229.jpg |
Ladies and gentlemen a KLaBz28 rebuilt opti:
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1230.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1231.jpg She's beautiful http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...s/IMAG1232.jpg and the startup vid. I thought I did it!!!! I jinxed myself.... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3..._VIDEO0119.jpg Then I tried to start it again and it was dead.... :klab: |
I have read something tonight, that leads me to go test wire B3 out of the PCM tomorrow. My brain is packed full with circuitry of this car, what goes where what does what figuring the exact algorithm process that takes place when the car is started, along with all my strengths of materials studies and labs, and BS sociology work. My head is going to pop time for sleep.

I already tried this^ Cleaned it well and also tried swapping 2 other non oily harnesses I have, no effect. So last nigh I unplugged the opti at the manifold (up top connector) and plugged it back in with the key on. I heard all kinds of shit make noise. Beeps clicks relays on/off and the pump. Strange, I think it juiced the injectos when I did this because after that I got a sputter on start. Plugged it in and out a few times and it started... I need to borrow a noid light again today and see whats goig on.

Harness from the connector at the passenger side of intake manifold to the opti is good. Im checking the wirefrom PCM to the opti todayyyyayayayayyayyayayay
getting closer to the source! I would have thought the sensor being gummed was the issue, but after cleaning it up that looks much better. my input is useless now. . . . lol
how about the sensor it plugs into? if the plugs wet chances are what it plugs into is drowning in oil.
dude did you see the pics lol. I took it all apart and rebuilt it and cleaned everything. Oil is no longer present.
dude ok!
dude, where is my (starting) car?
its not wiring. if it was the car wouldnt run at all. its something to do with the pcm not picking up the crank signal from the opti(crank trigger) a bad crank and cam sensor acts the same way. but it will run. i say sence it still runs the same after your "rebuild" its Not the opti. and its ECM related. get a junkyard one and flash it with your tune file.
I don't think its the opti. andddd all my PCM grounds are good. tested the ground pins out of a b c d connectors. I'm betting its PCM as well mmmmhmmmmmmmm but still gotta be sure. and then there's the question if it is the PCM, why?!??!??!??!? :(
:klab: |
cuz Frankenstein needs a brain!
I'm picking up a cheap 94 PCM today.
Checked every wire they all check out. 94 PCM is in and so far I can't get it to NOT start.... I'll consider the problem solved if it starts tomorrow morning. Then I guess I just gotta worry about trying to tune this PCM and not fry it like my stock one... :(
Tomorrow if its good I have to put the new o-rings on the opti drive and water pump gaskets and put it all back together. Bulletproof opti???? :D :klab: I think I made one.... |
