I read a post from a guy who had his NBM car painted, he said he thought it looked sort of purple after the paint job but just shrugged it off. Then later on a panel needed paint and when it was redone that one panel was now the original color of the car and stuck out like a sore thumb. Turns out NBM has "variants" and the shop used the wrong one on the complete paint job.

probably used like indigo blue instead or something..its a close color but i know that aftermarket indigo blue has a real purple hue to it but only in certain light.

Alex every color has variants. Most cars usually have at least 3 or 4, some as many as 7 or 8.
Basically what happens is the assembly line doesn't really break down all their spray equipment between colors. They just blow a bunch of the new color through and then start on the next batch of cars.
So, if your say white car was close in line to the front and the ones before were blue then your white will have a hint more blue than another car, same code, 100 cars down the line. So on And so forth for all the colors. This is how the paint companies explained why there are so many variants to me when I asked.
It's why some cars can be real fun to match while others are easy. Then, factor in different companies accomplishing the same color in different ways with different tints and it can become a real nightmare sometimes.

yeah another reason in chose a shop that does in house paint matching!!
