ok proper Power valve is in and figured out this Holley Ultra HP carb.
got everything working now and I put more timing as Pizza suggested and it runs much better, even though the engine builder sez otherwise? |
less timing=safe tuning. more timing= better throttle response, idle quality, low end torque. But you better be sure the afr is right, maybe run smaller cams in the dizzy? run 18-22 degrees idle and 32 wot heavy spring. so it comes on slow. big cube doesnt need a lot of timing down low. but they do for how shitty they idle. so you kinda have to play with it. a lot of guys are running locked distributors lately.

yeah Ill hook up my AFR meter and take it for a spin, good thing is it not running overly rich at idle and plugs are a nice light tan color.
dont have unburnt gas fumes burning my eyes. |
with that cam you should though. even with a ton of timing that much overlap literally dumps fuel out the exhaust port. so if you dont your lean. get a infra-red temp gun. measure your headers. they should be close in temp and below 600 at idle. tough to say exactly what they "should" with out more knowledge of that particular engine. but a stock motor is in the 3-400 range.

yeah still having idle issues tried another carb and it only will pull 4" of vacum?
the ultra HP was pullin up to 10"?idle mixture adjustment does nothing on second carb really. I do notice that my vacuum pump is constantly on all the time though and it should turn off after engine start up and it senses engine vacuum? maybe got a vacuum leak im thinkin? this is my Cam specs: Part Type: Camshaft Application: Chevrolet Small Block V8 305-350, '87-'98 (Carbureted) Cam Style: Hydraulic Roller for OE Roller Applications Basic RPM Range: 2600-6400 2800-6600 Manufacturers Description: Rough idle, needs good heads. OK ALL FIXED!
the Vacuum pump for the brakes was the issue the whole time. runs strong as hell. Dawg is back on the road!!!!:iroc-front-red-stri |
GEEZ, I still got issues with this engine/
now hard to start Cold but idles ok when warm runs great on main circuit. turning off ignition and it runs on for a second? pulling my hair out here. Pulled plugs this morning and they are all light brown in color. and no Gas fouling. maybe got check ignition grounds for the starting issue and reset timing for the run on? |
Sounds like a timing issue
