So, Mt. Washington?

Yup, we went away for a few days this week. Went up to the white mountains and drove the z up to the top of Mt. Washington. Snapped a few pics just cause I had to. Also, found out they offer specials for car clubs... :)

Anyhow, here's one of the view:

I think this is my new favorite of the z:

One that shows the cog railway at the top behind the car:

And a final one from the top overlooking the lot and the view:

And then we hit up Santas Village for the kids. Christmas in July anyone lol?

nah i doubt it.
those inclines are pretty steep and car would most likely overheat .
but It would be nice to see a first gen at the top though!

Bayer-Z28 07-08-2010 05:35 PM

Sweet! What's the elevation anyway?

*LS1* Queen 07-08-2010 05:45 PM

Iirc it's 6,288 ft.

And don't worry Dawg, I'll have my 68 up there when it's all back together. It's one of my goals with the car. Hopefully next year some time if all goes well ;)

Bayer-Z28 07-08-2010 09:39 PM

^ Why do they make such a big deal out of it if it's only 6200 ft? No to sound like an ass, but all those bumper stickers out there. Shit, the rockies was 14k ft. No wonder the truck had NO POWER climbin that shit. Had to stand on it to get it to do 65. CMIIW, but don't the carb'd cars take to altitude changes easier since FI cars are one set parameter and will run lean or rich if you vary from that programed altitude?

irockidz28 07-09-2010 12:00 AM

mt washington is mainly known for its weather...up untill a month or two ago it held the highest recorded wind speeds and the weather up there can be 65 and sunny then be rainy and 50 20 mins later its crazy

bottledbird68 07-09-2010 12:15 AM

Yeah. They make it a big deal since it's the highest peak wound here. Not only that but it isn't exactly a nice smooth paved city road. It's a steep grade with lots of sharp twists and turns. There's also no gaurdrails next to steep drops so it tends to freak a lot of people out.

And yeah, then there's the weather. The last time we went up before this we took the jeep. It was 90 out so we left the doors off.
Well, we got to the top and it was 34 degrees with wet almost 50mph winds. Needless to say we froze our asses off lol.

Basically it's just a cool tourist attraction ;)

bottledbird68 07-09-2010 12:17 AM

And yes, highest ever recorded wind speed of 231 mph was on top of there.

At least they were still claiming that when we were there. Where beat them?

Formula413 07-09-2010 12:43 AM

I took my Escort up the road once with a leaky radiator. :haha:

It really is awesome, you pass through the tree line about 2/3 of the way up, and it abruptly turns from forest to rock. Head up there on a 90 degree day at sea level and you will need a winter coat at the top. Wild stuff.

irockidz28 07-09-2010 12:48 AM

i forget what beat them but i they claimed to get 236 but i shrugged it off because i feel mt washington kicks ass anyways lol

Bayer-Z28 07-09-2010 03:14 AM

Wow, that IS nuts. NE is a crazy place for weather anyway. We used to do canyon carving runs up to Sun Spot observatory in New Mexico. Started at 4300 ft and climbed to 9600ft. Smooth roads, but it would boil my PS fluid every damn time. I kept it under 100 as there were no guard rails either. 0_o

grundens 07-09-2010 01:05 PM

nice! I hope to make that drive in my camaro some day as well!

ILuvPizzaTimes10 07-09-2010 01:21 PM

Very Cool. but in light of recent crashes!!! im not going to attempt it. my luck id be THAT guy who loses it over the edge!

lol yes gals have a tendency to do that... where as rahtards like most of us have a tendency to completely block out the bad things that have happened in the passed and say "well... this didn't work the first time, but i'm doin it again." haha

... or maybe i should just speak for myself.

*LS1* Queen 07-09-2010 09:30 PM

:p yeah yeah. In all honesty it's really not all that bad I've had four out of the five cars in my sig up there, and the fifth will go to after I get it back together.

Course you're also talking to the guy who drove his 68 to Florida twice, Detroit for the Woodward dream cruise, and just all over the place in general. I guess to me a car just isn't a car if I can't use it like one :)

84ta406 07-12-2010 03:30 PM

I'd do it in the T/A if the carb wouldnt act up.

CamaroRacing12 07-12-2010 07:06 PM
