My BIG turbo build at Slowhawks

As a few of you know i have a turbocharged 99 trans am. I bought it stock, it went through a nitrous phase then i decided to turbo it. swapped in a 6.0 and a t76 and ran it for a couple years. the kit was Extremely restrictive and of poor quality , constantly in need of welding because of cracking. So i decided to hit don up and we worked out a deal to tag team the new turbo build.
The car drove in as this:
TTI street kit (log manifold on driverside with manifold on pass side crossed over) rated at 450-500 before it becomes restrictive.
t76 turbo
Stock 6.0 shortblock
stock ls1 intake
selfported 317 heads
F-11 cam
3 inch thick air to air intercooler rated at 550hp
38mm turbo smart wastegate.

I hate typing.......anyways , so first heres the star of the show.
Here is the old t4 76mm next to the new t6 71MM ....yes thats right.... its not the size of the inlet that counts its the amount of cfm the compressor can supply. the t76 is rated at about 500-600hp with the exhaust housing it has on it. the new 71mm is rated at 850hp
http://i476.photobucket.com/albums/r...Jan2011024.jpg

Both have an A/R of .96 on the exhaust side

TrickrTreat 02-18-2011 02:23 AM

Day one consisted of getting the old turbo kit off and pulling the radiator and intake and front cap to make room for the new intake , radiator relocation, and new turbo kit.

Couplers anyone LOL?

Had a tire on the highway rip part of the charge pipe off, this was a "quick fix" but it worked.

*LS1* Queen 02-18-2011 04:06 AM

sweet!

DemonWithin99 02-18-2011 07:16 AM

you should buy a spare set of tires... lol

bottledbird68 02-18-2011 08:56 AM

Awesome.
I know I'll be following this one very closely :)

Where exactly do you have the turbo braced off of? Any more pics of that?

If not then I guess that's just one more reason why I need to get my ass over there lol.

KLAB 02-18-2011 03:11 PM

Good job! I love this build mostly because it was a shocking budget/easy way of makeing the bigger cube motors make crazy power without crazy mods, but now you're pushing it to its capabilities.

So you're using 6.0L truck manifolds flipped? Are all 6.0L manifolds the same, I would imagine the truck's are different from the suv's. They seem to fit pretty well what were you using for manifolds previously some custom ones from the kit?

ls6monte 02-18-2011 05:22 PM

Looks like fun Sam! Are you going to put a cage in it now? lol

My84Z 02-18-2011 09:10 PM

Very Nice Sam!

Slowhawk 02-18-2011 09:17 PM

It's a cheap turbo build IF you do it all yourself. We'll have a good 80-100hr's into this when done.

KLAB 02-18-2011 11:55 PM

Thats the best part of it :) Seems like a good budget for a boosted LSx

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-19-2011 03:36 AM

ABOUT FUCKING TIME JACKASS!!!!!!

Looks Even Better In Person!! Don and Sam do nice work. even though Sams a Slut and Dons a Dick!!!

yup thats the plan........Cage, trans, and rear.

KLAB 02-19-2011 06:12 AM

ooooow no more stock trans huh? shucks I like that hahaha. But thats gonna be much better setup. Looks like a much more solid/quality turbo setup than before :)

SLP IROC-Z 02-19-2011 09:45 PM

looks like youll gain alot of power from the reduction in drive pressure with the bigger turbine housing and turbine wheel on the new turbo. how do u think spool up is gonna be?

Slowhawk 02-23-2011 12:40 AM

Sam is slacking on the pics.

The car is getting close to running.......
