MY, "wtf" of the day.

Upon purchasing my S^TURN just over a year ago, I calculated that it got about 30mpg. After a few tune ups, alignment, cleaning injectors and intake and such I got 35-36. After I started driving it again this fall after leaving it parked all summer I noticed it dropped back to about 29-30mpg, and also had a high idle and idle surge between shifts. I just figured it was a sensor and I'd get around to it when I could. So today I figured I would take it apart and clean it up test some sensors. At step one this is what I found:

Be happy the mice only were in there and not eating wires

ZFreie 04-17-2011 12:49 PM

Id grab some 3m adhesive tape, some peanut butter and mouse traps. I don't mind critters, but when they are up in my base I don't stand for it. Be glad the air filter was still whole.

Yeah it seems like the best lil cubby hiding spot for whoever was living in there though. I leave the car parked all summer because its off the road when the camaro is on the road, I guess I should have thrown a glance in the airbox before I started driving it again!!

Strange thing is all I did yesterday was clean that out, but now I have an SES light... Secondary Air Pump code, just a coincidence? I might have unplugged something and forgot to put it back lol.

I would put something around the engine bay when you park it to keep the critters out moth balls or rat poison or something.

Definetly a FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

danZ28 04-18-2011 01:50 AM

yikes!! Chipmunks filled up my Ranger's airbox with acorns last fall, haha that was a WTF moment for sure.

Formula413 04-18-2011 02:34 AM

I had a bunch of those little whirligig seed pods in my air box once, they were actually starting to wear a hole in the bottom of the filter just from getting whipped around in there.

Any mice in my engine bay get sliced and diced. I love my mechanical fan

c4boom 04-27-2011 12:58 AM

pfff you would think that but I bet they are no where near that thing and in that big ass cease fire injection lid

they cant fit in the lid and it is easier for them to crawl underneath the car into the engine bay and bumper
