ZFreies Build and Questions
I figure ill start a thread of my build progress, ill get everything uploaded later, but I have a question.
Want to ditch my 2xx gears in the back. I have a 2 series carrier, Who make a 3.23 or a 3.42 gear that i could us in my 10bolt, and what brand should i go with and why. |
Motive

Looks like the only one that will fit is part # G875342X which are 3.42. Now where to buy from?
|
I bought my 3:73's from summit

:edit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MGR-G875342X/ Looks like those are them. I just HATE my 2xx gears out back, i have a massive dead spot, like at 35-50 mph in my current gears. |
My red car is an a4 and is 3:73's if u plan on being na i think it's perfect

No idea but if your worried about mpg don't spend a penny on your camaro and go buy a daily driver or hybrid then when u have apare money mod the camaro

Also, any idea what kind of rpms you turn on the high way at say 70? |
I don't see the mpg problem but at 70 it's like 2500ishgiver or take a couple i don't drive it often. Also unless your turning 5k 10 mpg is huge lol

go with motives..i got mine from summit. Im glad i went with 3.73s instead of 3.42s. MPG really didnt change considering i always drove in 3rd gear when i had the 2.73s i still average 21-23 on the highway
Anyways it all depends on your preference and what u want to do with the car |

3.73's if your going to stay Na and Not get a stall??? 3.42 on an LT1 wont really feel much better then 2.73's or 3.23's. and if your gunna waiste the money for a gear set and all the install BS with having "thick" gears installed(re shimming the Carrier is an Almost guarantee. id rather go threw all the hassle for a set of gears that will Deffinetly help. cuz to be honest. its cheaper and easier to just get a 3.42 complete rear.

If you can install a set of gears for under 200 bux you are the man!! 200 just covers the gears. What about the install kit fluids and time? A rear willl cost you 300 with out 3 channel. And they are factory gears installed and lapped in THAT housing. Will last years longer then any aftermarket gears installed by you or even a professional. 10 bolts are picky. Just my 2 cents

Also the yank 3200/3600 stall any thoughts? and knowing I will stall it at some point would it be wise to go with the 3.42? I will be the first to admit I know crap about performance mods/ fast cars. My Camaro is the fastest car anyone has owned in my family, my dads 300c with the 5.7 is next in line. So this is a whole new can of worms. I really do appreciate everyones thoughts and factor it in when picking parts, I feel like you guys wont lead me wrong. :wookie: :edit: Feel free to call me out like pizza did about the gears, he was right I forgot to factor in fluid and install kit. Him being a "dick" and pointing that out very well saved me time and money. |
Pizza beat me to it. I was gonna say the same thing about just swapping the whole rear if you're only looking for 3.42's.
|
Gunna stall it id say 3.42s and a 3600 yank ss series. Will be the best street strip setup I know of. But before you do a stall make sure you can the proper tranny tuning before hand!!
Ps wasn't being a dick but if I sugar coat it you might just not listen and I'm just trying to steer you in the right direction. Based on opinions and what I've done myself or have seen done sucessfully |

i mean its only an LT1 and no boost your not talking 600 at the tires. BUT the tranny is a weak point. and with a good set of tires its going to be either the tranny or rear end that will fail. up to you wich you want to upgrade first. id rather blow rear ends and keep buying 300 dollar replacements then have to spend 700+ for a good shape 4L60E. id say talk to a good tranny place like FLT. see what they recomend for your current and future plans.

ya id just pick up the rear for now...check out ls1tech people get rid of those rear ends all the time for decent money. I did my gears first so i could get a quick boost in power the cheapest way..then save up money for the tranny and stall and do it in one shot.

So a 3 series carrier rear will bolt right up and maintain my abs? ASR is of no importance to me. Thats the only thing I'm confused on still is which rear end will work. |
You will need a 4 channel. They are typically more expensive. And if you get a 4 channel then both will still work. And don't forget you will need a mail order tune for the gears or you will burn up your tranny in no time.

a 4channel has abs and tcs and the sensors are on the ends of the axles. How would you go from one plug in the middle to the 2 on the ends pizza boy?
|
If he has traction control he HAS a 4 channel Meat head.
|
I have ASR and ABS, I want to LOSE the ASR and keep ABS if i can. I WILL get rid of ABS if its cheaper and easier to get a rear end. Its not my DD do it makes no difference.
So two questions now. What channel would i need to keep ABS and lose ASR? What channel would i need to lose BOTH ABS and ASR? |
3 channel is just ABS and 4 channel is ASR and ABS

there is no 2 channel
u can also unplug ur ASR under the hood if it annoys u to constantly shut it off. My asr switch is broken so i just unplugged it lol who needs traction control |

well a 4channel like yours has 2 plugs one on the end of each axle a 3 channel has a ring on the carrier and a plug on the pumpkin. I know you can just use the axles off the other or the ring but I dunno about the wireing/plugs. since Pizza chose to ignore my ? and just be a dick lol

I have to say I wish I went with a 3600 Stall... I have A4 with 3.73's and a 3200 stall...wish I went higher with the stall but hey i got a deal on the stall........
|
just go with a take out 3.42 rearend, 99-02s will have a torsen diff from the factory (unless it was an slp ss) which is way better than the 98 and older auburn pos. i doubt youll want a 3600 in an LT1 that only has bolt ons (unless your tony) a 3000 max would most likely suite you well, especially since youre concerned about mpg.

So I need a 4 channel 3.42 99-02 rear end. Should I just call some junk yards? lol So YANK STEALTH 3000 or YANK SUPER STOCK 3200 3200 is smaller?, 200 bucks more, and .15 more str. Worth it? |
