Sandblasted my headers today, came out pretty good (for what they looked like before) Next is to have my buddy tack up a pinhole, then quick blast again, prep em, and paint them, im gonna use some high temp header paint from eastwood. My buddies father swears by it, hes goin on about 4 yrs with his and they still look great. The catch is its $17.00 a can :ohsnap:

Pacesetters, they were ceramic coated, and the kid had them on his car for only 4 months, they had alot of surface rust down by the collectors...idk how they got so bad. And the y pipe he gave me was useless, it was all hacked up and the ends were all bent and cut. I said keep it lol ill buy another one, but i still have to buy the paint and all the hardware I need yet.

Just bought the paint from Eastwood, grand total came to $43 for two cans of silver hi-temp coating with S&H......OUCH!!!!!:sFun_explosive:

weld thru primer works great, its expensive to tho

hope it works well for ya, I'm not even going to say how mine looked last time I changed the oil I cried a lil inside. mine are only 3yrs old and I learned the hard way that next time I'm going stainless.

For the cost of my uncoated pacesetters, I could by 3 or 4 sets for the price of one set of good stainless. So if mine last 3 years, another set of mild steel will be going on. If you've seen my car you know I care about performance over looks hahahah

Plus after I lower it, I wont want to shoot my self the first time I try and rip my headers off. If there were stainless I would be a bit more angry.

Got kooks headers and they still look like the day they were new....

Idk if I'd ever go stainless, cuz after you run them for awhile, they turn all discolored and blue-ish. I looked at some headers that have been on a 73 camaro for about 4 yrs now with the eastwood paint, and they still look awesome. BTW can I run an egr pipe to the passenger side header from a 95 lt1? because the headers have a "football style" fitting: http://shbox.com/1/EGR_pipe.jpg on the back for the EGR pipe, and the one on my car is a screw in type: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...g/sr=1......OR should I just do an EGR delete?

that stainless discolor from the heat is AWESOME!

but Id find out if they were brand new and only on his car for 4 months vs he bought them used and had them on for 4 months because mine didnt start rusting til after a year and even after a year it very minimal

They were brand new I know the kid, hes one of my brothers friends, but Im just surprised at how bad they were, I mean they did sit in his garage for about two years too.......

it's very easy to remove the discoloration from ss headers.

I redid mine last year after being up in Mass I had the same issues. But now Iam down in florida so they still pretty nice.

I too like that discoloration that stainless headers get. I have a pot that looks like that cause I cooked some rice with the burner on 10 and it was supposed to be at 1. The smoke detector pointed out my error.

I'm also a fan of the color they turn, err discoloration. Still to expensive for my cheap ass still. If I have a show worthy car perhaps ill go stainless.

I fell like they would have to be on the right car, I think they would look nasty on a rat-rod.

its not only about looks trust me ive been down the road of buying a cheap set of headers then i had to go out and buy a new set when they rotted to shit. In the end your saving money just buying a nice set of expensive stainless headers rather than having to keep replacing rotted ones. At least i was smart this time around and got Kooks cause i sure as shit am not buying another set of headers lol

500 bucks? I got mine new for well under 300. Pacesetter LTs with no emissions. Mine are almost 2 years old i think, and really don't think they have more then surface rust. No leaks yet.

Headers rarely rot from the outside. Usually rot from the inside. A good way to see how weak they are is take some water pump pliers and squize em. If they squish easy there junk.

Mind if I ask how or why they rot inside to out?

condensation as the exhaust cools and then reheats. and i bet your headers were just as rotted on the inside as they were on the outside maddie. thats also how alot of "coated" headers rot out. What a Gimmick.

nah your good with yours. im just saying for future reference. headers can look great outside and be shit on the inside. But the adverse can happen too. if your dumb like maddie and buy mild steel headers and drive your junk box YEAR ROUND!!!!!

I got stuck in a snow flurry once in the camaro, there was just enough snow to cover the road, like a dusting. Was a scary ride home...

UPDATE!!!!!! Prepped and painted the headers tonight, I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with this paint, it shot out of the can real nice and layed on the pipes real thick. I did three good coats, and now they sit to dry. And yes I drool over that '73 all the time lol

Haha its not slow, it runs mint and is very healthy, im just saying that this guy is anal about his cars, he puts rediculous amount of money and hours into each of his cars. He has that camaro, a 67 nova prostreet, and two other cars hes currently building, ones a chevelle, I think its a 65.
