Monte fix up project

A few weeks ago I got the car back on 4 wheels again. Now its getting ready to go to the frame shop.

I have been collecting parts to get it drivable again.

Taillight filler panel cost $5 at the junkyard. New lens cost $140. It's only the LENS! I have to go back to the junkyard to get the backhalf of it. Mine got damaged and can't be used.

I'm picking this used bumper up Saturday in NH. I'm getting it for $100. They go for $300/400 used!

I also picked up a trunk hinge that got bent in the accident. That was pretty cheap. Only $10.

Yesterday I pulled off the rear bumper to get it ready to go to the frame shop tomorrow. You can see from the pic how twisted the frame got.

I also have a used inner support going in that is for the 87 bumper that I bought a few years ago.

The parts are only getting primer in the meantime so I can still drive the car. The paint/bodywork is a future project till I can figure out what the next color will be.

ZFreie 12-03-2011 11:18 PM

I still cant get over how good they can hide stuff like that, when its done youll never even know it happened.

ls6monte 12-04-2011 01:19 AM

Was down the shop this afternoon and it's getting there! The frame is straightened already and they will be able to save the left rear quarter! Most of the big dent is gone and the wrinkle has to be smoothed over some more. Going back down there tomorrow to pull the nose off and get ready for some paint so it wont look too bad.

Thanks everybody!

The shops name is New England Carriage Shop. They are in Plympton. I have known them since I had my 80 Cutlass that I bought just before the Monte.

Got the nose pulled off the car today! Also found out the bumper support got bent when the car tapped the wall. You can see it in the rf under the headlights. More work to be done!

DavidS 12-12-2011 02:10 AM

Looks like they are making good progress on it. Nice! Did you decide on a color?

It's coming along but slower than I expected it to be. The car was there for 3 weeks before they even started it! lol

I have one in mind but I'm not completely sure of it yet.

The Maroon color it is now is the original color, correct? I like the maroon.

ls6monte 12-12-2011 03:43 AM

The original color was Silver. Then in 88 it was painted Iroc blue. This color has been on the car since 2000. It is a Cadillac color called Pearl Red. I really do like this color but it is time to change it.

My84Z 12-12-2011 03:55 AM

Candy with 24's son!

941LE 12-12-2011 04:01 AM

maybe handicapped blue?

Are you thinking of going with an original color. I think there were only 4 colors. Black, Maroon, Silver and White. Black looks great, but keeping it clean might be difficult.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 12-12-2011 01:40 PM

second vote here for handicapped blue..... Hahahaha

i say a burnt orange say from the Cadillac or Vette

ls6monte 12-12-2011 05:26 PM

The car will not have a stock color. I'm looking at a 2009 GM color. It will not be blue again also.

*LS1* Queen 12-12-2011 08:43 PM

U said yesterday u were keeping the same color! Make up ur mind old man!!! Hahaha
