yea no one knows what happened as of yet.. I dont see how he could of been going that fast in the 1st place, the speed limit on suicide alley is 50 and most people go 60 on a good day. it was wet that day so its not uncommon to get stuck behind slow pokes going 45-50 as you obviously can't pass people... and this abutment is a couple of miles past the previous on ramp so I dont think his throttle stuck.

That is terrible. One of my worst nightmares ever since I had a former boss get his legs crushed in a car accident.

I saw the article.

March 17, 2012 Police have identified the Plymouth man who died in a single-car accident on Route 6 Friday afternoon.

Gary L. Ayre, 50, of Plymouth died after the 1971 Monte Carlo on Route 6 he was driving crashed into a concrete abutment on Route 6 near Exit 10 in Harwich shortly after 4 p.m.

Ayre was gravely injured when the car left the eastbound lane of the highway and struck the abutment, according to a statement from the Massachusetts State Police. The abutment is part of a bridge for the Cape Cod Rail Trail.

He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, where he later died.

A portion of Route 6 was shut down for about three hours as public safety crews cleared the scene and investigated the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the Troop D of the state police, the Cape and Islands State Police Detective Unit, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, according the state police.
