tires....

i hate shopping for them....

frankzlt1 04-01-2012 11:19 PM

Did you try bjs or cosco. Sometimes you can get a good deal and I believe they can order what you want if its a brand they sell. They got a good warranty for there tires as well.

BigMac76 04-02-2012 12:46 AM

Going through the same ordeal man, go with tirerack.com
That's what I'm going to do sometime when I get enough coin saved up for the set I want.

Motaboata 04-02-2012 12:58 AM

depending on where you live my buddy runs a TFT and cuts amazing cash deals

Formula413 04-02-2012 01:44 AM

Tirerack.com and Discounttiredirect.com are the ones I usually use

DemonWithin99 04-02-2012 01:46 AM

I can get a deal on the nexen n3k's through oewheels, for $560 shipped but still need mount, balance. And because I'm going to roll on 17's over the 16's on it now I'll likely need an alignment. My TFT connection left the shop localy, but I can always find some other shop to mount them.

Or I can spend $730 on Firestone Firehawk WIDE OVAL Indy 500, mounted, balanced, and aligned.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 04-02-2012 01:33 PM

Do the Nexens and have em mounted at a mom and pop shop close to you!!! usually will cut you a better deal on tires wen you didnt buy them from them.

Grovlet 04-02-2012 01:54 PM

I use TireRack myself. FYI they now have a Shipping warehouse in Windsor CT, 5 Minutes off 91.... You have to call in order to have them to ship directly there, but you can pick them up vs. paying the shipping.

So if your close to Windsor CT (or don't mind driving a little) you can save the shipping which pays for the mounting/balancing....

ILuvPizzaTimes10 04-02-2012 01:58 PM

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=275

better then the nexens better traction. and free shipping.

KLAB 04-02-2012 03:44 PM

useful info in here! my BFG's are just about spent..

DemonWithin99 04-02-2012 04:52 PM

yeah I was thinking about those Falken's just reviews look like ass, better off with the nexen'ss, or hankook's. I'm more likely to get them online vs. local since they all blow up the $ to compensate for the 'free alignment'. I have like 20 pages of tires I've been going over and researching my ass off (because I'm that kind of shopper) before I spend the $ on something that will suck more than the crapstercrafts I've had on it for the last 3-5yrs.

Really? I got my last set of tires for my daily driver from there, I thought I had asked about local pickup and been told it wasn't available, maybe I never asked. It's only like 20 miles from me.

What do you have, Mastercraft Avenger HPs? I have those on my 16s. Honestly I don't really think the tires you are looking at are a big step up from them, if you really want some quality rubber at least get 555 Extremes.

DemonWithin99 04-03-2012 12:36 AM

Anything I'm looking at is better than these. I don't mind cheapo's since I'll likely never see the track, but I have 2 sets of 16"s so a pair of DRs when the time comes would be easier to deal later on.

As far as the 555s I've been looking at those forever, but now that my local connection got moved I lost the deal he was going to get a few of us. Had a discount deal if he sold 3-4sets in one shot they would have cut the cost by almost $25per tire because that's what the warehouse had left in stock. But now that's a lost deal. Going with the nexens.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 04-03-2012 12:43 AM

the price range your looking at all the tires perform the same. Shitty. the falkens have a higher rubber content and are grippier hence the lower mileage warranty. id say if your gunna buy shit. buy the cheapest shit you can. no sense in spending more for no gain.

I think for a while when it first opened they didn't allow local pickup, but I know for a fact it's available ONLY if you call them specifically (# is listed on the site though), Web orders are a no go, and you definitely need to call the CT warehouse specifically.

DemonWithin99 04-03-2012 02:41 AM

Yea I talked to them they have to take the order over the phone and charge tax,.
Even f I drive up to the tirrack warehouse I'm spending more on gas than it would cost to ship.

and after more review I'm leaning more on the Hawks. No matter what I do I'm spending a bit more that i 'd like to, but it just means I'll need to save a bit longer for my truck... lol

DemonWithin99 04-03-2012 03:26 AM

Orrrrrr...... I can ease my pain by going with a 255/40/17 and save a bunch by getting better tires.

DemonWithin99 04-03-2012 04:10 AM

And of course I found these... I'm such an ass....

Exactly what I was thinking. lol

Lets find the cheapest ass shit for my car.

Kalstar 04-03-2012 07:52 PM

Nexen are down right dangerous....they should not be on the market.

The Hankook V12 are highly rated tires and not that expensive. They are also the lightest of all the tires if you are trying to keep the rotational mass to a minimum.

If budget is low, nothing wrong with a set of used high quality tires.

DemonWithin99 04-04-2012 02:47 AM

nittos...

final answer...

fuck it....

want them done in time for Dyno Day. didn't want to go cheap cheap just needed to find the right deal, no sense overpaying for something.

thanx for the help

whitdog54 04-04-2012 02:34 PM

I havent bought new tires since i started driving, you can ge tires at over 50% with just few thousand miles on them. I bought (2) 275/40/17 555Rs with 2k on them for 200 bucks. Lightly used tires are where its at.

DemonWithin99 04-04-2012 03:33 PM

yeah I've looked that route too, not much around right now (esp. around here) right now have 2 real options and they are about the same, I haven't really been tire shopping enough over the last year to realize how much we find online isn't even made anymore.

decent tires at surplus rates, or find a new local shop that will hook it up. (think I found one via reference from my last connection)

DemonWithin99 04-11-2012 12:29 AM

toyo PROXES 4 vs. firestone FIREHAWK WIDE OVAL INDY 500.... lol

ILuvPizzaTimes10 04-11-2012 12:40 AM

Either way they both suck

Formula413 04-11-2012 12:47 AM

Are we still talking about this? I thought you were getting Nittos...

ls6monte 04-11-2012 01:24 AM

The only thing he is getting is his head stuck up his ass thinking about which fucking tires to get! Just buy some fucking tires will you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

holokosta 04-11-2012 02:32 AM

I hate this shit too I just put toyos on my dd today. Shit was necessary still didn't wanna do it lol

DemonWithin99 04-11-2012 02:57 AM

yep .... I have A.D.D.

can't get the Nitto's anywhere no one has them in stock or if they do they only have 3. going local, getting what I can afford. there are slight differences between the 2 of these, i was mearly looking for input if anyone had any. not that it matters ...

Spooky 04-11-2012 04:15 AM

where did you find nittos 555's in stock?

The only place I found was discount tire direct.

Wife needs 2 for her Z28. one has a broken belt. (275/40/17)

Scott

DemonWithin99 04-11-2012 04:36 AM

they are the only place that might still have them. they don't return email's in a timely manner, (unless it's lost in my spam folder). that's where I was/am going to get them if they answer my call tomorrow. then I'll just sit on them until I find a place to get them mounted. this is far from a dead issue for me until I get tires. and my $ is day to day.

I polished the crap out of these things only to find that they are in need of a sanding down, but they'll look good from a distance. (like the car) lol

I'd really like to get the nitto's if only Discount tire had better service I wouldn't be still running around looking for something acceptable.

midnight 04-11-2012 03:02 PM

weird that your having that experience with Discount Tire. I get all my tires through them and they always have provided excellent service for me. I ordered up a set of NT05s for the TA and they were out of stock, they called me minutes after the order placed and I ended up going with my second choice 555R's which were much more expensive in the size i wanted and they gave em to me for the same price as the NT05s

DemonWithin99 04-11-2012 03:48 PM

I called them last week, and asked about them at several shops yesturday, they called Nitto directly and the 555's are on back order nationally meaning you'd be waiting even longer (if they decide to even continue making them). So unless they are in stock you're SOL and that's the problem I found that most places don't have many in stock.

so I'm stuck on these two tires. my question was simply an opinion on them, nobody can answer that question so it's time to learn from experience and live with it.

ZFreie 04-11-2012 03:50 PM

What about the nitto invo?

You want 555's or 555r's?

DemonWithin99 04-13-2012 03:49 AM

Doesn't matter I went with proxes4's satisfied for now, we'll see how they are after put some miles on Them. I was looking at 555's, but they might be working them out of production.
