T 56 swap in my G Body

Finally started swapping the T 56 in my Monte.

Got the 4l60e out.

Got the McCleod rxt twin disc clutch installed.

Getting the T 56 ready to go in.

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...psb8475c16.jpg

Finally got the trans mated to the engine. Did not want to go together easy at all. Kept having to mod the floor because of the shifter and reverse lockout.

Tomorrow is the crossmember and a few others things.

Crossmember is done. Driveshaft needs to be shortend a bit.

Shifter is installed. At the moment I'm using the factory Hurst shifter that came with the trans.

I have a set of original G body clutch/brake pedals. They are being installed next weekend with the hydraulics also.

Thanks Justin. Same talking to you.

I've heard extremely good things about the MGW Short Shifter

Personally I have Lou's Short Stick mounted to the SLP Short Shifter and it's good as well....

But either way I think you'll find a Short Shifter is huge improvement!!

Mystery Bird 03-18-2014 11:47 AM

This is going to be a fun car to drive with a stick. Nice work.

ls6monte 03-19-2014 12:41 AM

Thanks.

Thanks Eric. I was thinking of the MGW or the Pro 5.0 shifter.

My84Z 03-19-2014 01:20 AM

ls6monte 03-23-2014 05:51 PM

Ran into a small problem last night. I bought a used slave cylinder off of LS1 tech(almost new) and installed that and went to hook up the clutch master line and it wouldn't snap together. Didn't realize they made 2 different ends(green and gold color). I found a new line available from Hawks 3rd gen but it wont be here till thursday.

My new shifter should be here this week so we should be ok again. Hopefully we can work on it this coming weekend unless we get buried with more snow as they say is coming.

ls6monte 03-27-2014 12:09 AM

Got the new MGW shifter today. Looks sweet!

And yours will??? When was the last time you actually drove your car? 3/4/5 years ago?

84ta406 03-29-2014 01:51 AM

July 2012.. :-x

ls6monte 04-17-2014 12:52 AM

Unfortunately I haven't had any updates because we've been trying to get my clutch pedal bled in the car. Cannot get any pedal what so ever. I've tried 2 different masters, new clutch master line to the slave and 2 different slave cylinders. I've also bench bled the master, tried the mity-vac method, vacuum bled it and pressure bled it. Still nothing. We backfilled through the bleeder line and got the slave cylinder filled with fluid but still nothing.

I'm almost ready to get rid of the hydraulics and go mechanical. We're going to take everything apart again to make sure nothing is screwed up. Getting very aggravated now. There is no reason that we can see why my car doesn't have any clutch pedal.

My84Z 04-17-2014 03:34 AM

What year hydraulics?

ls6monte 04-17-2014 10:11 AM

2002 Camaro ss is what I've been getting.

Mystery Bird 04-17-2014 11:47 AM

I had the same problem when I converted my car. Not exactly sure what I had to do but I remember having to take the slave off the transmission and bleed it somehow by hand under the car. I googled it for instructions, that's about all I remember. Don't know if it will help you or not but thought I'd share. I feel your frustration. Don't give up.

ls6monte 04-17-2014 12:48 PM

You have an lt trans, slave is external. The slave is internal on the ls t56. We're pulling trans again tonight. This sucks.

My84Z 04-17-2014 04:57 PM

Get a tick speed bleeder

smokinss 04-18-2014 12:35 AM

He already had one and still nothing. They have tried almost everything

inotdonut 04-19-2014 11:18 AM

Never seen a G body with a manual trans, should be interesting!

Slowhawk 04-19-2014 12:41 PM

Well, if your using the ac delco aftermarket master(it's metal, not plastic) those are huge problems.

The system is very easy. The line from the master to slave is new too, correct? I've seen those collapse lines.
