worked on the hideaway headlights and bolted up the torque converter.
a light day due to back spasms . |
dawg any updates on the project?
|
Got the heater core in. (what a PITA!)
got the headers in, connected the heater hoses and installed Alternator and wired it up. Tomarrow ill be reinstalling the passenger side Fender. and pulling the Gas tank if I dont run out of steam. |
was hanging the fender but noticed an indented area in the cowl and finger went through!
so cut out cancer and a ton of leaves and debris. patched in new panel welded into place. Now waiting on seam sealer. |

Dawg how's the car coming? You get her started yet?
|
Nope lol. was fitting fender back on and found out the new badges will not work on that side. drivers side is fine?
So filled the holes and redrilled. now fender is in Shop for paint. Got almost everything else on the engine ready except the fuel pump and Radiator ( going to leave it out till I get fender back to fit up the Front grill). I could have started on the fuel pump and plumbed it up and wired but i took a break and went to a Clambake on Sunday lol. |
So got the fuel pump and filter/ regulator assy fabbed up fitted on the car.
Project on hold till I come back from Ga. (work issue) |
fender back on!
new badging etc. http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/a...0/IMG_0003.jpg Repositioned heater core outlets will provide alot of expansion room now. http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/a...0/IMG_0004.jpg |
Yeah buddy!
|
Lookin good dawg
|
hanging the stainless tank and assembe the grill tomarrow.
|
Stainless tank in, Fuel pump plumbed and wired. Vacum pump in and wired.
Now waiting on the radiator 4 row aluminum BBC. I wired the fuel pump with relay and trigger switch off the oil pressure switch. Lose Oil pressure and pump turns off. almost done with grill too! |
the stainless tank.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/a...0/IMG_0001.jpg the fuel pump setup I fabbed. http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/a...IMG_0002_1.jpg New 4 row BBC radiator (outta keep it Cool) http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/a...0/IMG_0005.jpg engine pretty much Completed, just some odds and ends to take care of. http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/a...IMG_0004_1.jpg run after initail tune. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/yUnMTZMRZCU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Sounds really snotty.
|
Looking and sounding good Dawg!!!
|
sounds. needs more timing at idle. too bad your stuck with carb and dizzy. its nice to have 28 degrees timing at idle. To then have is smoothly drop down and sweep back in at WOT
|
what I need is a power valve idle mixture has no effect and I'm pullin 7" at idle.
I got an 8.5 pv in there now I need a 3.5. timing set to 34* @ 3500 rpm and 12* at idle (set to builders recommendations). It will run much better with the proper power valve. |
that much cam and cubes and 12 degrees? try it. lock the dizzy at say 27ish. will clean up the idle.
|
ill play with it after I get the proper power valve .
|
power valve wont effect idle, tuning for idle quality can be done still. just an FYI.
http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...gine-idle.html |
thanks for the link and advice Pizza Ill try that but I must first follow the builders recommendations first due to the engine being under warranty.
|
ok proper Power valve is in and figured out this Holley Ultra HP carb.
got everything working now and I put more timing as Pizza suggested and it runs much better, even though the engine builder sez otherwise? |
less timing=safe tuning. more timing= better throttle response, idle quality, low end torque. But you better be sure the afr is right, maybe run smaller cams in the dizzy? run 18-22 degrees idle and 32 wot heavy spring. so it comes on slow. big cube doesnt need a lot of timing down low. but they do for how shitty they idle. so you kinda have to play with it. a lot of guys are running locked distributors lately.
|
yeah Ill hook up my AFR meter and take it for a spin, good thing is it not running overly rich at idle and plugs are a nice light tan color.
dont have unburnt gas fumes burning my eyes. |
with that cam you should though. even with a ton of timing that much overlap literally dumps fuel out the exhaust port. so if you dont your lean. get a infra-red temp gun. measure your headers. they should be close in temp and below 600 at idle. tough to say exactly what they "should" with out more knowledge of that particular engine. but a stock motor is in the 3-400 range.
|
yeah still having idle issues tried another carb and it only will pull 4" of vacum?
the ultra HP was pullin up to 10"?idle mixture adjustment does nothing on second carb really. I do notice that my vacuum pump is constantly on all the time though and it should turn off after engine start up and it senses engine vacuum? maybe got a vacuum leak im thinkin? this is my Cam specs: Part Type: Camshaft Application: Chevrolet Small Block V8 305-350, '87-'98 (Carbureted) Cam Style: Hydraulic Roller for OE Roller Applications Basic RPM Range: 2600-6400 2800-6600 Manufacturers Description: Rough idle, needs good heads. OK ALL FIXED!
the Vacuum pump for the brakes was the issue the whole time. runs strong as hell. Dawg is back on the road!!!!:iroc-front-red-stri |
GEEZ, I still got issues with this engine/
now hard to start Cold but idles ok when warm runs great on main circuit. turning off ignition and it runs on for a second? pulling my hair out here. Pulled plugs this morning and they are all light brown in color. and no Gas fouling. maybe got check ignition grounds for the starting issue and reset timing for the run on? |
Sounds like a timing issue
|
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/a...sparkplug1.jpgMy plugs look ok?
|
1 of the problems is ur running autolites.
