question about stock tune
 

I recently just bought this 2002 formula with 5.7 ls1. the car had loudmouth exh and k&n filter, both of which I removed for stock. Since doing that the car feels a lot slower. It could be my imagination because its not loud as sin like it was before OR I could just be used to it by now, But I don’t think so. I know that most bolt on mods advertise horsepower but is usually a bunch of BS. My question is, could the car have been tuned for those mods and my removing them leaving power on the table. I read somewhere once (for a vette anyway) that you can check for a custom tune by watching the temp at which the fans kick on. Anyone know if this is true for 4th gen F-body? Where locally can I get my whip checked/tuned back to stock?

Don At Slowhawk will be able to tell you right away. stock exhaust can Really choke an engine off. depending on what stock exhaust it is? and wen you K&N do you mean you had a "lid" and put the stock one back on?

k&n was just stock replacement in stock airbox. ill look into slowhawk.

What stock exhaust?

Probably a mix between losing a little h.p. and having it very quiet now.

The difference between stock exhaust and a Loudmouth is probably around 10hp, if that, which you probably would not feel. It's unlikely that someone would have the car tuned for a catback, usually a tune would not be needed until at least long tube headers have been added, if not internal mods as well. And the difference between a paper air filter and a K&N is maybe 1 hp at most. However replacing the stock airbox with an aftermarket lid is usually worth about 10 hp. If you got a lid and a catback that was more to your liking (Maybe Magnaflow or Hooker Aerochamber) you would probably gain 15-20 hp and might see some SOTP difference. As for watching fan activation temps, the stock temperature gauge is essentially a dummy gauge, to see at what temps the fans come on or off you would need an OBDII scanner.

if it's just a filter and that catback, Just changing the loudmouth to a stock replacement muffler you will feel like it's choking. Engine just want's to breathe and those two mods are everyone's 1st. Removing any power will likely be felt. Especially a well sounding 15hp.

I also feel like the lower the hp the easier it is to feel in sotp

10-20hp on a 300hp motor is like 5-7%. I think everyone would notice a 5-7% increase in their paychecks lol

When dealing with 500 or 600hp, 10-20hp is like 1% and wont be noticed as easily, well thats my view on it.


Then again, thats if things are restricting.
