You shouldn't have any issues with the trans not being controlled.
At least my caprice didn't care when I swapped in the t56.
Only thing you may want to make sure of is getting some sort of speed sensor hooked up. That the ecu may miss, especially since it's a 96.
And either way just get tunercat for whatever adjustments you need to do. That should take care of whatever.
