Flushing fluid won't effect the pads wearing unevenly. I suppose someone who just does regular daily driving could be ok for a very long time on original brake fluid. I usually try to flush it yearly, but then again I race in two different events.
I would definitely check to make sure he doesn't have a stuck caliper pin though. It's a common issue with the 4th gen cars. Not sure about S10's...
